What you see in the Sun, is the Chicago skyline from the Indiana Dunes beach, across Lake Michigan. You can see it from 50 miles of distance due to a form of superior mirage, because the skyline is seen above where it's actually located. [📷 wesskywalker]

This Gulf Fritillary Butterfly landed on my hand and crawled to my fingertip. You can see its legs attached to my finger. The wings are closed up to the resting position, and they are brown and white with some orange streaks. Red and white coloration on the neck and part of the body attached to the head and on top of the head, you can see two black antennae sticking up. I believe this is a newly emerged from its chrysalis as it has shiny, iridescent, or metallic appearance which usually happens immediately after emerging from their chrysalis. This shimmer is caused by microscopic, shingle-like scales and specialized nanostructures on the wings that refract and reflect light, often shifting in color as the angle changes.

The image shows a close-up of a crow standing on a ground covered with light-colored wood shavings. The crow is centrally positioned, facing the camera with an inquisitive expression. Its plumage is entirely black, contrasting sharply with its thick, curved beak. The crow's eyes are glossy, reflecting the light. In the background, there are green branches or foliage, slightly out of focus, adding texture to the scene. A rock is partially visible on the lower right side.

This artwork, titled Moonshine (also known as Moonlight), was created by the Swiss-German artist Paul Klee in 1919.
The image you've shared is a 1919 painting by Paul Klee titled Moonshine (also commonly referred to as Moonlight). This work is a classic example of Bauhaus abstraction, where Klee uses simple geometric shapes—squares and planes—to create a nocturnal atmosphere.

A Berry's Bobtail Squid (Euprymna berryi) sitting on the sea floor. It is quite small and cure. Its arms are curving back and tucked under its head while its mantle hangs behind. It is covered in blue, cyan, green and yellow green iridophores, making it shiny and iridescent, as well as black chromatophores. The sea floor is sandy with lots of bits of shells and probably coral in mixed in.

I’ve posted similar photos of this evening before but I love it so…..On a warm summer’s evening on the banks of Lough Foyle. If you ever get the chance to come to our beautiful island, I hope you take the chance to visit the area around this Lough. We would love to see you. #Stunday #ECK #Ireland
A summer sunset over Lough Foyle, with the low orange sun sitting on the horizon and casting a bright reflection across calm water. The sky fades from warm orange near the horizon to deep blue above. In the foreground, a tall, wispy plant stands in dark silhouette, its fine strands bending gently, while shadowed marshland and narrow water channels frame the scene.

Hubble is 36 & putting the rest of us to shame with how well it’s aging 🌌 We’re wrapping up the birthday week by revisiting the final 3 GOATs from Hubble’s legendary portfolio. Definitive masterpieces that changed how we see the universe • NGC 2174 (The Monkey Head Nebula) – A cosmic powerhouse
To celebrate its 24th year in orbit, the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope has released this beautiful new image of part of NGC 2174, also known as the Monkey Head Nebula.

NGC 2174 lies about 6400 light-years away in the constellation of Orion (The Hunter). Hubble previously viewed this part of the sky back in 2011 — the colourful region is filled with young stars embedded within bright wisps of cosmic gas and dust.

This portion of the Monkey Head Nebula was imaged in the infrared using Hubble's Wide Field Camera 3.
