This conference aims to explore how language use is shaped by digital spaces and how digital tools and data have revolutionized the fields of linguistics and language learning. Digital linguistics has developed into a thriving interdisciplinary field at the intersection of pragmatics, media linguistics, and applied language studies. The multifaceted field includes research ranging from multimodality (Bateman & Wildfeuer 2014), contextualization strategies (Androutsopoulos 2023), stance-taking (D

Since the advent of transdisciplinary death studies in the 1970s, a plethora of research has been conducted in the humanities and social sciences on death-related issues, including end-of-life conditions and bereavement. This symposium aims at bringing together researchers working on World Englishes (especially those focusing on varieties of English other than the “inner circle” varieties of the British Isles and North America) in staged and mediatized performances. While it cannot be said that such a perspective has hitherto been ignored in linguistic research (see Lee & Kachru 2006; Moody 2021), it is evident that pop cultural artifacts serving entertainment and recreational purposes, such as films and TV seri

Neat graph crime in the flyer about the referendum on Munich's candidacy to host the Olympics 🙃
A bar chart comparing the number of visitors to the Paris Olympics (11.2 million) to the number visitors to the Oktoberfest last year (6.7 million) and the estimated number of visitors to hypothetical olympic games in Munich (7.5 million). The bar supposed to represent 11.2 million is nearly as tall as the other two. The bars were cropped.

Philomena Cunk against a collection of classical statues. "Antigone's death is even more tragic than it actually is, which makes her a tragic hero"Philomena Cunk looking thoughtful. "Goya continued to paint tapestries until 1792 when serious illness left him dead for life"Philomena Cunk looking thoughtfully into the distance. "Society is slowly becoming more contemporary now"Philomena Cunk looking into camera on a beach.
