Hmm today was definitely a day. Pictured is a detail of my current "this is taking much longer than you'd think" artwork. Playing around with terms. Definitely is intended to be a palimpsest. Clár scríobtha iomlán or Tabula rasuris plena. They don't feel quite right. Maybe tablet full of history
Mdf board covered in straight lines. They are scored into and marked with pencil and marker.
This photo has been taken play into the diagonal nature of the marks.

The lines are a grid of horizontal and vertical lines spaced an inch a part. The diagonal lines are set at 60°.

This is the second layer. Looking closely you can see faint markings of hexagons with hatching. These have been sanded away.

The next stage is to resand the surface to remove much of the markers and pencil lines. Then to redraw the hexagons. This is to serve as a cypher key to my hexglyphs.

An older white woman wears a purple balaclava in the process of being knitted. The balaclava is knit from the top, and is designed to cover both the nose and mouth, leaving only the eyes visible. Right now the balaclava reaches just to the bottom of my nose.

A 2,300-year-old silver container in the shape of a scallop-shell decorated with an octopus 🐙 It may once have held cosmetics. From Paternò, Sicily. Altes Museum, Berlin 📷 by me #Archaeology
My photo shows a silver shell-shaped container with an eight-armed octopus in relief at the centre of the lid. The arms of the octopus curl outwards across the ridges of the shell’s surface. This ornate shell container has a hinged lid and may once have been a cosmetic container . It is displayed on a clear stand in a museum case. Dimensions: 13.3 × 13.2 × 3 cm. It is part of the Silver Treasure from Paternò, Sicily, a hoard discovered in 1909, consisting of tableware and toiletries. Dated 4th-3rd century BC.

I've mainly been getting arsey with a hexagon grid. Think ive worked it out now but it's too late to start hammering holes in it so it will have to wait. I'm going all out on a palimpsest vibe so ive sanded the first one down to the second photo. #cypher #hexagon #grid
A slightly askew photo of my hexglyph key. The reddish umber of the mdf is covered in a grid of 8 by 8 hexagons. various parts of each hexagon are shaded with crosshatching. This changes from hexagon to hexagon. Here is another slightly askew photo. Its the same mdf board that I have erased and sanded to obscure the hexagons from the previous photo.
Im working towards a palimpsest vibe.

Mostly diy, parenting and general adult ingredients at the moment. Though I did eat some slightly rude looking salad. It smelled a bit and made me a tad quesy. Then I sat and recovered. Did some pencil doodles that might be developed into a thing or two. #sketching #studies
Sketching of axlhuman figure from the side and slighy above. The figure is straining to drag something not seen. Around the figure are basic anatomical sketches to help me work out what is where and how the limbs and torso all work together.

Ive slightly messed up the right leg. Looks a bit off and dislocated.Abstract architectural sketch. Landscape.
5 oblong forms sit one stop the other in a rough stepped pyramid form.
Behind this a sphere, with a segment removed from it floats.
A strange isolated arch way seems to hang over the horizon.
The image is sketched in pencel with very rough pen cross hatching The figue study from the first image has been used here.

Portrait orientation.
2 huge massy blocks take up most of the image. A segment of an empty landscape and grey sky can be seen in the top right corner

The figure is dwarfed by the huge blocks and is straining to attempt to shift on one its side. The figure pulls on taunt ropes or cables that are tied to the block.

An impossible task.

Again the right leg is a bit askew.

The second panel zooms in on the man's face. He says, "I'm sorry. I'm just so nervous."
In panel three we see that a biblically accurate angel is sitting on the other side of the table.
In panel four we zoom in on the angel's face, who says "BE NOT AFRAID".

Slow progress still on the new work. But it's progress. Spending a lot of time parenting and DIYing. But I think the worst is finally passing and my kids seem settled.
Hexglyphs
Hex-cyphered words. One layer is English, using black sharpie. The other layer is gaelic using sliver graffiti marker.

The image shows a series of concentric hexagons drawing in marker and pencil on a orange background. The hexagons have various edges emphasised with marker.

Sliver concentric hexagons over lap the black hexagons.

The history of the marks made and errors are visible. Hexglyphs
A close up of a section of the work that clearly shows the smudges of human error and working out of composition elements.

I don't know why I like to show the history of the work . It's something I shall ponder.

Finished my upstairs hall floor. Now i need a person to sort out my woodchip papered walls. If I can't get that I'm going the experimental route.
My cork tile upstairs landing. Done by me. It's very beige and white. Boo hiss.Same floor from a different angle. I've sealed the floor and begun painting small blue squares and light yellow patches on the cork tiles. The finished floor. It's very shiny. thanks gloss varnish.
The once beige floor is now decorated in a slightly chaotic abstract fashion.

Painted on the cork tiles seemingly at random are
Blue squares, yellow and orange patches, tonal areas, pink diagonal stripes, red diagonal stripes, circles outlined in black, short green vertical and horizontal lines, black lines, very translucent blue triangles and silver circles with silver dots contained with in.

The sliver circles , green and black lines were an attempt to establish a visual rhythm to the floor, without losing the chaotic feel. I think it worked
