Have a scratchy allergy throat so I made a crockpot recipe for chicken and rice soup. Unfortunately my crock pot is too small so I didn't have the space to add heavy cream at the end. Still tastes good though. I'll try it again when I buy a larger crockpot. 🙂 (Soup tax)
White bowl full of chicken soup. Broth is barely visible around the outside of the bowl because the middle is piled full of shredded chicken, chopped celery, white and wild rice, and crinkle cut carrots.

Took a trip to Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids this week to see the Dale Chihuly exhibit and the weather was perfect and the glass and outdoor sculptures were stunning. I'll have to visit again one day, but it's all the way on the other side of the state so I can't just pop over impulsively one day.

Hey, ProPublica reporter Jake Pearson here. I’m taking over the account to tell you about my new story. For months, I posed as a problem gambler on DraftKings to test the company's "responsible gaming" safeguards. Spoiler alert: They made me a VIP — and I lost $10K. Here's how it all went down. 🧵

I actually got the big items on my to do list for this weekend done this weekend - which almost never happens. Painted a wall, assembled a garment rack, and ordered a new dresser. I think I'll be a lot happier with the layout and organization of my bedroom shortly. 🤞

I think I'm done. 2 coats of the breezy blue to cover the previous darker blue, now to wait until it's fully dry and see if I missed any spots. Still a lot of work to do, but the rest won't involve stepladders and drop cloths. 🙂
Blank featurless wall, but it is freshly painted light blue. A plastic dropcloth is taped to the base with blue painters tape and a tall stepladder is standing in the corner. Corner of a room behind a door. On the left side is the new paint color, a light bright sky blue called "breezy blue." On the right side around the door is the old paint color, a much darker and deeper blue which was called something like "Montana sky." Nice but I was tired of it and ready for a new color.

Made up my to do list for the weekend. Lots to get done, but the biggest task is painting a wall. With luck i can do both coats in one day and then start rearranging everything before I need to go back to work.

The scavengers are very efficient. I set out some large trash for pickup late last night after dark, and shortly after sunrise someone picked it up. Less to the landfill is always good, I hope they either find it useful or get a good price selling it for scrap.

Very funny to me when these bookclub scammers just plug my responses into ChatGPT and come up with the most obsequious responses
A bookclub scammer to whom I replied “Eat shit” sent a follow up email that reads (in part, because it’s really long):

Colin,

Fair enough. I got your "eat shit" loud and clear, and honestly, I respect the directness.

But I want to clarify something, because I think my original email read like boilerplate SEO spam, and that’s on me.

I didn't pull your name from a random list. I came across Ghostland while I was digging into American folklore and the way abandoned places hold collective memory. I picked it up, read it, and genuinely found myself stuck on it, particularly the way you tied "zombie homes" and economic decay to the ghost story tradition. It wasn't what I expected, and it stayed with me.

I can't think it's irrelevant that all <this shit> is happening at the same time the last people who actually remember what happened in WWII are passing away. For a relatively large-brained ape, we don't use our ability to learn from the experience of others for diddly squat. 😠

Took 164 balls of yarn to donate, some of which I think I moved into my current house (where I have lived for 20 years lol). Then right away bought some more yarn, HOWEVER it is bulky weight instead of fingering so fewer balls, and also will not hang around because I have plans for it already!
Two large plastic bins full of mostly fingering weight yarn (individually packaged in plastic ziplock bags to keep it free of dust and pests and keep the label with yardage, dye lot, fibers, and care instructions from getting lost) sitting on the grass next to my driveway. Next to the 2 bins are 2 paper grocery bags, ALSO full of balls and hanks of yarn. Total is 164 individual balls and it barely made a dent in my enormous stash.
