American workers need to remember that we're currently around 400% as productive as our parents' generation. We're working the same or sometimes more hours and we're not making ends meet. Employers could have doubled our income or halved our hours while still making double the money. Instead […]

Some of us in San Francisco first heard of the Network State and related tech cults from Emily Mills. She documented how these ideas had infused our local politics. It sounded odd at first, but her work sparked mine. On Tuesday, we're onstage together in SF. Tix here: semaphore.thd.org/954-2/

I'm not a religious person, but if there were such a thing as the Antichrist, he would do what Trump does every day. Destroying our beautiful planet and the lives of its people for the sake of A. profit and B. a vengeful urge to destroy what other people love. So yes, demonic is the right word.

When you think that there ought to be laws against things you see happening.... There probably are. The laws just are not being enforced. We expect enforcement to be discretionary in the interest of justice, but we don't have good mechanisms to challenge the decision not to enforce a law.

Marijuana is legal in CA and I support that (I don't use it). However, I would like to be able to test whether someone is impaired due to marijuana. MJ can be detected in the body weeks after use, so that kind of test is useless. Is there a solution to this problem?

David Scott Moyer on Is It Really True That
Socialism Is a Threat to the Democrats?

Oaxaca, Mexico - Just now
This is the problem with labels. They have ever-changing definitions
which can be used to manipulate a population notoriously bad at
critical thinking and understanding nuance.
The Democratic Socialists of today (they chose this divisive label)
are the Democrats of the early 70's. The "moderates" (label
contrived by media) are the Republicans of that era. "Conservatives"
conserve nothing. "Liberal" has become yet another meaningless
epithet.
Labels oversimplify the issues we face, divide constituencies which
have aligned interests, and give us a government that serves not us,
but those who manipulate the labels.
Stop using labels as a catchall for politics and policy. Stop devoting
entire columns to parsing the horserace between contrived
divisions. Politics is not a sport. Report on the issues and what
candidates propose. Report on their visions for the future, not the
simplistic back and forth of slogans.
As Jon Stewart famously said on Firing Line, "You are hurting us.”

One of the most reliable indicators of whether trading in a stock will increase is if it appears in the news. It doesn't matter why. Maybe the CEO married a celebrity. But that's why 47 name dropping companies is so consequential. He has the reach to be heard, plus he has a cult following.
