Just as an aside, PS3 emulation has gotten real good AND they've got custom multiplayer servers up and running. Folks have been playing Castlevania: Harmony Of Despair (the wild mega-scale co-op dungeon crawler - no other game like it) on PC for a while now.

The work of Ainu poet Iboshi Hokuto and others was integral to a movement keen on eliminating the "dying race" rhetoric perpetuated by the Japanese. Through his poetry and activism, Iboshi sought to dismantle Ainu stereotypes and rekindle pride in Ainu culture and identity.

It's bizarre how repeatedly people keep hijacking the conversation about Accessibility away from things like closed captioning, colorblindness support, alt-text for screen-readers, etc, to "Games should be easier to play, books should be easier to read, and shows should be simple to understand"

FYI: That image being shared around, the one where the government is trying to define trans people as terrorists? It's been edited. The stuff is all in there, yes, but two paragraphs have been put together to make it look as scary as possible. THIS IS EXTREMELY IRRESPONSIBLE, DO NOT FUCKING DO THIS

Everything that appeases capitalism eventually pivots to nostalgia to minimize risk. In gaming, that means a feedback loop of remakes that slowly cannibalizes the very creativity that built the industry. #blog #gaming

If you've seen this piece before, "The New American Gothic" by Criselda Vasquez, Then heartbreakingly, I have to inform you that—according to Vasquez's Instagram as of 4/03/26—Vasquez's father has been taken by ICE. GoFundMe below to help financially support their family.

A painting of a Mexican American couple, a woman and a man in their 30s to 50s, in front of a red Chevy. The woman holds a bucket with cleaning supplies hanging off of it, and the man holds a garden hoe in the same way the pitchfork is held in the original 1930 painting American Gothic. They hold themselves with a sense of dignity.

it's "funny" that this article is going to be used by the most annoying people in the world as proof that human translators go too far and should all be replaced by AI when the complaint is specifically about word-for-word translations that don't go far enough

In response, Horii commented, “When it comes to English, the flavor tends to get lost in many ways. Things inevitably end up sounding simplistic.”

As one example, Ishiyama brings up the variety of first-person pronouns available in Japanese – like ore, boku, washi, watashi, etc. While each of these can reflect the speaker’s gender, age and even personality traits, in English, they all become simply “I.”

Horii seems to consider the shortcomings of Japanese-to-English localizations a result of inherent differences between the two languages, commenting, “I’ve come to accept that English is a simple language, so there’s no helping it.” On the other hand, he feels that this issue has been somewhat improved with the introduction of voice acting in games, given that voiced lines create extra room to convey a character’s traits through tone and delivery.

and don't give them sympathy for "they did hard work and it's not easy to find skilled translators" you know what they could've done? release the tools and say "jsyk we MTLed the strings but it's all placeholder". you know why they didn't? 'cuz they wanted to be "the guys who translated segagaga"

I say this as a professional who came up from fan translation and has friends at Sega who will likely never get to work on this officially: when you fan translate ANYTHING that was previously untranslated, you have a deep, heavy responsibility in setting people's first and typically only impression.
