I get objections to enforcement are often cynical but it's a huge mistake for urbanists to dismiss genuine concerns about policing & state power - it loses potential allies & leaves you unprepared when power is turned on you. Solidarity to these protesters who are doing something important & brave.

The transbay bus is pretty magical. I had a meeting in downtown SF at 8:30am. Took the bus, had the meeting and am on the bus back. So cool to be able to casually pop into downtown SF stress free in the middle of rush hour

Phonebanked with a crew of about 12 people for 2.5 hours tonight into Contra Costa and Alameda County to save our BART, bus and paratransit by passing Measure RTM. The vibes were immaculate. Fun calling crew, nice people (generally) answering the phones. Lots of yeses and ask for yard signs

Voting against Measure RTM means you’re totally fine with all of these folks on this BART car x10 cars driving 24, 680, etc. instead of riding the yellow line during rush hour. Sounds like an absolute nightmare.

Transit belongs to all of us so people are taking the initiative to get the message out that they want to see get out there more. I've seen youth do videos about what this means for them, paratransit riders talk about what it means for paratransit, Spanish speakers reaching out to their community

There's lots of different audiences out there & broad-based messaging needs to be accurate for the audiences who will see it. For most voters in the 5 counties, RTM will stop cuts and spiff up some service a bit. Some voters will see "significantly improved" service so those voters .. (1/x)

It's wild to think about, but we are on the cusp of much better transit service in these areas because RTM has very VERY specific funding allocations and rules around what money can be spent on. For ex, County Connection will get like an 11% funding boost which is enough to stop the cuts and expand

The tl;dr- I was figuring out post-college stuff while living in DC and trying to find solar work. I found a job in South San Jose that I could get to via the Santa Teresa stop, so was able to move to the Bay and make it work w/o a car & a bunch of credit card debt

Their budget crisis is two years out. So RTM is about feeding starving agencies and one that is getting a bit peckish (and by getting fed will be able to significantly expand and improve local bus service)
