As I am a writer and must peddle my wares lest I die in the abyss, hey! In April 2025, THE STAIRCASE IN THE WOODS emerges from the fog and the trees and if you wanted to pre-order it from your favorite local bookstore -- or get signed, personalized copies from Doylestown Bookshop -- that'd be nice.
Cover reveal for Chuck Wendig's THE STAIRCASE IN THE WOODS, listed as Coming April 29, 2025. On the cover a spiral staircase rises through eerie mist in a dim forest of crooked trees. A crow sits on the railing of the staircase. DEL REY is the publisher. Cover design by The Boland Design Co.Text: A group of friends investigates the mystery of a strange staircase in the woods in this mesmerizing horror novel from the New York Times bestselling author of The Book of Accidents.

Five high school friends are bonded by an oath to protect one another no matter what.

Then, on a camping trip in the middle of the forest, they find something extraordinary: a mysterious staircase to nowhere.

One friend walks up—and never comes back down. Then the staircase disappears.

Twenty years later, the staircase has reappeared. Now the group returns to find the lost boy—and what lies beyond the staircase in the woods. . . .

Day 16: My collage of artsy postcards with #art by @tanaudel.bsky.social (done for @angelaslatter.bsky.social’s stories). Kathleen’s store: www.redbubble.com/people/tanau...
Got my Kathleen Jennings artsy postcards framed together; a combination of characters as well as art+quotes from Angela Slatter’s stories. Closeup from the collage: a character postcard by Kathleen Jennings. A red haired woman seen on a green backgroundCloseup: Jenning’s artwork shows the women on top running, and those below: bridal scene with one woman holding a crowned veil and the one behind her seemingly offering support.

The Angela Slatter quote reads: “they run through the night streets like glorious, terrified, ghosts, flashing past windows and open doors, glowing in the lamplight as they pass from shadow to light and back again”Jennings art from Slatter’s story “The Badger Bride” shows some really cute badgers

Slatter quote below reads: “I begin to think of worms and beetles, of windfall apples, blackberries, and wild cherries. I begin to think badgerish thoughts”

I'm right around the 3/4 mark (70K) on my novel rewrite. The original was 105K. I think this one will be closer to 95K. The new manuscript has some of the same characters and beats, but it's a very different book. Much harder the second time around, but I swear I'm going to finish it. So close!
