#antique arrival: A Victorian fly charm (which I'm using as a pendant). Huge success with the eldest and I'm hoping the kindergarteners will like it as well (my modern dandelion pendant was a success last week)

Antique arrival: A Victorian Devil pin needle. Can't imagine the time and care it took to carve it out. Also nice knowing there was at least one person back then with similar interests as me. #victorian #antique

Graham does *not* want to watch "Love & Translation" nor "My Korean Boyfriend" with me. -I'm interpreting this as him not wanting to strengthen our interracial relationship (until he caves in).

Weeman was unfortunately too ill to join grandpa & big sis to the playground but I sweetened the deal by having Graham read him an antique kiddie book about trains and letters. Who knows when anyone last read this before us. #booksky

In awe of the gift the father-in-law brought me: A victorian heirloom.
Victorian mourning locket in gold and diamonds in the shape of a starInitials of the original owner's late husband as well as the date of their wedding and the date of his deathOne side contains hair and the other a photo of the late husband Background info on the Gray Buchanan locket reads:
The locket is engraved with the initials of Mary and Alexander Wilson Gray Buchanan. It was a memento that belonged to Mary in memory of her husband Alexander. The engraved date August 3rd 1881 was their wedding day and the date July 18th 1909 the date of Alexander's death at the age of 58. The locket contains a photograph of Alexander wearing a freemason's chain and a lock of his hair.

Alexander was Graham's great great grandfather's brother. He inherited wealth and bought Parkhill, a mansion near Polmont in 1885. Alexander and Mary had 4 children, none of whom married. The three daughters were referred to by Graham's granny as 'the aunties'. She initially went to school in Polmont and probably saw quite a lot of the aunties. Alexander's father had accumulated wealth as a merchant and as a colliery owner, from a gunpowder manufacturing business, from being a principal backer of Ardbeg distillery on Islay and from investments in sheep farming in Australia and New Zealand. Alexander inherited the interest in the distillery business and was a director. He was also a merchant and was made a JP. It is said that the aunties lived off the income from the distillery shares although all three were tee total.

Mary (neé Dunlop) was from a family of coal masters and ironmasters and died in 1932. An obituary records that she was one of the founders of the Polmont Domestic Mission, a nursing organization and was closely involved with the Mothers Union and Scottish Girls Friendly Society. She was also a director of the Buchanan Society

So, this year saw me burnt out beyond recognition and I nuked my life: I decided to leave medicine and have started working in a kindergarten. No regrets so far. One kid dressed as Santa and gifted me a leaf, another wanted to look at tiny mushrooms and a third hugged me goodbye.

Something prototypically Norwegian is that I base my shopping on two things: -Does the shop have a self-service checkout (lest I have to talk to anyone) and most importantly; -Is the shop likely to carry my flavor of snus?

I'm so occupationally damaged. Tried explaining the framework around a high profile insanity plea-court case in Norway and how the person walked but it is so obvious things do not compute for mom (nor would it for many people). She was the one who brought it up and probably regrets it now.

Nice.
I posted asking if there was a word or phrase that struck anyone as weird in their language. I gave the norwegian word for tadpole as an example (rumpetroll). The literal meaning of that is "ass" and "troll"A person replied:
Not weird but I think the design is quite genius 凹 (concave) and 凸 (convex),together 凹凸 means bumpy
