Wanted to get the Christmas vibe going early so the tree is up. (We did tie it back as a certain large kitty knocked it over last year)

Killing time at the magic kingdom. Dan is the photographer for a Disney wedding tomorrow but today he is prepping so I'm solo. Of course with the airlines possibly shutting down there's a good chance I'll be missing the flight home on Sunday. OH WELL. Also LEGO Chewbacca serving cake. Just saying.

Ended up scratching my cornea and giving myself an eye ulcer a couple of days ago. Between that and the flu shot on Friday, I've been under the weather so spent today finishing up this Magic Pharmacist book nook. Fun details but for some reason all I got were Anise stickers for the drawers lol.

About 1/3 of the way done. Would have been further along but I was two columns short on the right and didn't realize until I'd nearly completed the section below only to to have to tear out all of it and redo it. T_T Onwards! #crossstitch #xstitch #blackwork

The tiny random pumpkin is both tiny and random…

Allison Pang @allisonpang.bsky.social · 14/09/2025

My random pumpkin plant finally had a female flower a few days ago, but it was raining so no bees were around to pollinate it. Did the hand pollination thing and I think it was successful. The ball at the bottom there looks larger so hopefully it will grow. No idea why it's flowering NOW though…

My randomly growing pumpkin plant has finally decided to flower. (It's a male flower so this will be moot if a lady flower doesn't show up). I feel like it's a bit late in the season to be starting this process but guess we will see.

Blackwork progress. Slower going then I'd like but I miscounted and ended up having to frog a section. Back on track now, though! ^_^ #xstitch #crossstitch

So, we now have a friend for Gutters! Currently in a quarantine cage, we adopted Starry from the shelter. Also a found bird, we don't have any history on him, but he had been there for a month and looked sad. Hopefully they will get along. ^_^

A lovely quote from my short story "A Murmuration of Souls" from the newly released anthology Fractured Reveries, edited by Carina Bissett! You can read the excerpt and a little bit about why I wrote it over at the Storied Imaginarium Substack :

“Everyone has a bird inside them, my Maw Maw used to tell me. A soul trapped within the cage of their ribs.”

With all the storms recently some of our trees have blown down/bent over the fence. Apparently we have an enormous elderberry bush I hadn't noticed before but is now leaning into the yard. Some the berries have been eaten by birds but looks like there are still enough to make a cold syrup with. ^_^

I do believe the overgrown thorny shrub next to the house is actually a wild blackberry bush. (It has never produced fruit before but here we are. ) I guess it could be wild raspberries too - will have to see what they look like when they ripen…

So we still have this little parakeet as no one has claimed him yet. (I've been calling him Gutters). He did get a vet visit last week and is overall in okay shape. He's perked up a lot as you can tell by the video, though he doesn't seem to know how to play with toys.

030

Allison Pang @allisonpang.bsky.social · 29/05/2025

Parakeet acquired. (My neighbor was able to snag him off the street this morning.) He is in good spirits- very hungry. Some sort of irritation on his left eye - hopefully it's just stress related but no way of knowing how long he's been outside. Waiting to hear back from some possible owners.

020

Allison Pang @allisonpang.bsky.social · 28/05/2025

Spent an hour or so trying to catch this parakeet that landed in the back yard. I got him to accept some food (we had some old treat sticks from when we had parakeets) but he wouldn't let me get close enough to catch him. Def an escaped pet - pretty sure one wing was partially clipped.

Three eggs hatched of the five but only two chicks are left. (Assuming nature took care of the third in one fashion or another). #HouseFinch
