So how exactly does someone like #ChristopherNolan top his previous film #Oppenheimer?I don't know but somehow he did. Believe the hype, The Odyssey is all that and then some.A three hour colossal epic of a film that has the potential to redefine what we think of as cinema.The story is told through two perspectives, one from Odysseus following his victory at Troy trying to get back home and one from his son Telemachus who's trying to find out who his father was and if he's even still alive.Giving a career best performance, Matt Damon is fantastic as Odysseus, a PTSD riddled man trying to defy the gods themselves while trying to find his way back home. Anne Hathaway as Lady Penelope, his wife who has many stands out moments trying to ward off would be suitors in Odysseus's absence. Most notable is Robert Pattinson as Antinous, whose scheming is both conniving and oddly charming. He's got the shit eating grin down just perfectly.Yet it's Samantha Morton in a scene stealing sequence as Circe the witch who gives arguable to most standout performance. The transformation sequence of turning Odyssey's men into pigs is disturbingly horrific.Told largely out of order as we see the story come together through the many perspectives. It all comes together in one jaw dropping spectacle of a third act with Nolan going full James Cameron mode.And yet it never feels like spectacle for the sake of it. Nolan also keeps the action in perspective of it's characters. You always feel what they are feeling. A particular thrilling sequence involving a giant Cyclops left me speechless.Seriously, Nolan should just make a horror film at this point.There might not ever be another film like this for a very long time if ever. See it on the biggest screen possible, see if you can see it in IMAX.
