Maybe this would just be too difficult to create, but a free-trade treaty organisation that does for tariff defense what NATO does for war defense seems an interesting idea. It could be NATO countries (excluding USA) + Japan, South Korea, and Australia. Would be quite a legacy for Carney.

The vociferously anti-Carney folks (calling him a warmonger, etc.) have the whiff of the f#&k-Trudeau folks before them, but from the other side of the political spectrum. It seems personal. I think some disappointed NDP sort of think of Carney as a pied piper who stole a bunch of their children.

I’m in favour of govt contributing to fun things for people to do: Olympics, World Cup, music festival, etc. But stop pretending there’s a good economic argument. Vancouver didn’t need help with tourism in the summer. Hotels were already full. This event has actually made it harder for hotels.

I am a privacy expert, and this is nonsense. Social media platforms already have so much sensitive personal information about users that they absolutely already know each user’s age. Don’t pretend adding a review of a government ID, for which this is its primary purpose, is now a bridge too far.

I agree that if a conflict or disaster is a surprise, then governments should help their citizens get home. But I’ve never really understood why people who knowingly travel to parts of the world where war is a predictable risk blame their home country for not helping to get them home.

If you’re playing fantasy sports I really suggest you spend some time with Claude’s Opus 4.6. Over the last week I’ve built a draft assistant that syncs with yahoo during my draft, with player rankings based on my league’s unique settings and biases. It’s been fun and a great way to learn AI.
