I got a Macintosh IIx at VCF SW, and restoring it is going pretty well! I saw two people open it, wince, and put it back down at the free table, so I figured it would be a fun repair :) I’ll likely have to do some trace repairs, but I want a IIx enough that that doesn’t phase me :)

A very dirty and rusty Macintosh IIx with its two internal batteries cut from the board, but lying there near the ROM slot. The board is visibly corroded and had mild to moderate trace damage.

The Macintosh IIx motherboard, pulled from the case and cleaned. All of the capacitors are removed, as well as the CPU and FPU, and the trace damage is easier to examine now, with the majority of it being near where the batteries were, and by the CPU and FPU. The RAM slots and NuBus slots seem healthy.

Quote with your first computer. I got mine from my cousin after she replaced it when I was 3 (2004) and I used it for about 5 years. It was a 500 MHz Snow iMac G3, with the 30 GB hard drive and 128 MB (later 384 MB) of RAM. I learned to use it quickly, and immediately fell in love with computers :)

2. I still have this thing! The motherboard is in a different machine because the original chassis is shattered, but it will go back together someday when the MacEffects iMac G3 Inner Bezel releases.

I bought and built a @bluescsi.com for my Macintosh IIci, and I’ve been having fun using some of the last websites that run on Netscape 2/3, as well as connecting to IRC rooms and BBS servers :) It’s so cool having networking and easy file transfers on the IIci :)

Yep, bought it from an elderly electronics recycler for $50, replaced all the capacitors on the motherboard, installed a BlueSCSI (after accidentally dropping the hard disk), and it works great I just need to find time to retrobrite the shell and repair the floppy drive
