Haven’t done a #caturday post in a while. Smokee and Bear. Was testing out new to me Mamiya RZ67. Film used was well expired (over 30 years old) black and white ORWO 125, shot at around iso 50. Not sure of how it was stored, but this film roll held up pretty well!

School’s out. Got inspired by buddy of mine’s work and found myself putzing around with an Insta360 action cam in role of a wide angle, urban/street camera. Not typically the type of device I’d use and not the focal lengths I’d use the most either. Can’t complain though - this little thing is fun.

Been kind of crazy stressful past few weeks without the silly little guy. Did find his collar (with AirTag) on the side of the road around the corner from where we live, but no other traces. Collar was of this variety that would open to avoid choking the animal.

Started my 2026 reading year strong: with Octavia E Butler’s “Parable of the Sower”. Excellent book. Too real.

Dec 31st - While the scientists working on it had a new years eve party, the in-production law enforcement cyborg "Robocop" woke up. 📽️📅 RoboCop (1987)

3 Screenshots from the movie "RoboCop" (1987): First, a group of lab technicians in party hats wave enthusiastically, surrounded by New Year’s decorations, with the caption, "Hey, look, look! He's watching us!" Second, a close-up of a woman wearing oversized glasses and holding up a festive New Year’s hat, smiling warmly at the camera with the caption, "This is for you." Third, the same woman leans closer to the camera, delivering the caption, "Happy new year," with a cheerful expression.

In Icelandic folklore Jólakötturinn, the Yule Cat, comes to eat those who do not wear their new clothes for Christmas. In this image, you can see somebody did not put on their new Christmas sweater. Or perhaps even more unfortunately, no one got them one! More ... 👇

Jólakötturinn is huge, as big as if not bigger than a house, and only comes around for Christmas. Some say Jólakötturr (as sometimes shortened) is the pet of the a family of trolls known as the Yule Lads who are Santa’s helpers in Iceland. It’s also said that he has a particular taste for ungrateful children.

The legend of the Jólakötturinn was not written down for publishing until the early 19th century. At first a more obscure countryside myth, the lore of Yule Cat has only grown since and is now internationally known and celebrated.

It is theorized the practical purpose of this myth may have been to aid in wool production in earlier seasons of the year which children took part in helping with.
