It's probably been that long since I watched it through. I'd forgotten the whole thread with the elder brother/apprentice and how emotionally wrecking it is. So very well done in its disturbing-ness.

Objectification *for* being conventionally attractive, and objectification as *not* conventionally attractive... are fundamentally both just being viewed as a thing. But we both know this. It makes me want to rant uselessly and why bother; she is blind and vile.

Today's nap-dream involved attempting to contain a serial killer (unsuccessfully) and I woke up with my heartrate double normal. My brain does not appear to comprehend the idea of *resting* during nap. C'mon, dude. You're missing the whole point here. I don't even like slasher flicks!

There are people who should just stop talking and never start again, and she is one of them. So many things wrong with that statement I'm just *system error*.

Absolutely creepy. The kid's parents falling down and getting up again (with the flower on the dad's nose!). Internet Archive's got the whole thing--I may have to watch it again. I'd forgotten how disturbing Kuruku's voice is.

My ballet knowledge *does* in fact begin and end with Nutcracker (and barely that), but some of the performances in this thread now have my attention. Giselle and Dracula especially.

I really need to get some work done but I keep one-more-chaptering Ada Palmer's Too Like the Lightning. I usually wait until I finish a book to say something about it, but this is fantastic.

Congratulations to Rati Mehrotra! “The Teleporting Disaster Fairy” is a 2026 WSFA Small Press Award Finalist! You can read it here! buff.ly/J2pHgC3
The cover for Uncanny Magazine Issue 67, "Mushroom Mother of Us All" by Paul Lewin. In the center, an elderly Black woman has her eyes serenely closed, a brown-orange nose piercing on her right nostril and an orange line/mark on her chin. Her hair are the green leaves of trees, trunks growing out of the side of her face, and mushrooms growing through the leaves. She wears large earrings of orange, sienna, with aqua and white lines and dots. Her hands hold a bowl lined with Black faces and mushrooms growing out of the bowl. In the center of the bowl and thus the front of her chest is an orange sun surrounded by a dark pink halo like a globe. The quote reads: "The first time Kittu teleported was into the lavatory of a plane bound for London, fifteen seconds before it crashed in a field south of Gatwick. One moment she was brushing her teeth in front of the bathroom mirror in her apartment in Toronto, wishing she had the money to go on vacation, and the next moment she was thrown upward,

The rat-dog things in Willow. I promptly had a nightmare about being chased by them that I have never forgotten. Honorable mentions: Critters, Killer Klowns, and Lord Kuruku (Unico in the Island of Magic).

This is adorable. Also reminds me of the one random time I was going through an airport after a visit home and the TSA guy stopped me and said hey, I remember you, we went to (my elementary school), you were a couple years ahead of me. You never know who might remember you, decades later.

Nap-dreams are a whole Thing, goddamn. One with my dead mother (very much alive in the dream) having a whole meltdown rant at my long-suffering father. One that was for damn sure some eggshell-chipping. I just wanted a nap, brain. I just wanted a nice restful nap.

Stress levels never really drop these days, but at least I have cats. This one is *utterly obsessed* with being brushed right now, and cat, I really need to work. I know you're using the Brush button constantly because I keep saying no to Kibble and Treat, but-- --that *face*. #Caturday
A black and white cat making a squinty-eyed, slightly jaw-dropped, bristle-whiskered face of bliss while having the top of her head brushed with a cylindrical-type brush.Same mostly-white-faced cat with eyes completely closed and face forward, little teefies visible in the little gape between a smudged black chin and a pure black nose pad, head tipped up into the path of the brush.

They quoted me in this New Yorker piece about AI today. www.newyorker.com/culture/the-...
“Let’s say there’s a world or time line I exist in where A.I. has been subject to regulation. It is ethical. It has no footprint environmentally,” the novelist Jeff VanderMeer, a prominent critic of A.I., told me over the phone. “With those guardrails in place, would I read an A.I. book? All I can say is no. And the reason is, in part, because I want to read something coming from a particular mind.” Using A.I., he said, “feels like a betrayal of the whole point of why you’re a writer.”

INTRODUCTION

The equities here could not be more one-sided. Defendants admit that they
provide a service without fully knowing how it works.

This is not just any service. It is one that Defendants themselves concede poses an existential risk to the continued
survival of humankind.

Defendants claim they cannot stop barreling forward with their potentially civilization-ending endeavors unless they are forced to do so by the
government. They have asked the government to tie them to the mast.

Plaintiff brings good news to the Defendants: The Florida Attorney General is answering your
cry for help with a motion to enjoin you from harming Floridians with your reckless, unacceptably risky product.
