Hey, I’m just asking questions. Ignorant questions, bigoted questions, questions that have been repeatedly answered for many years. Sorry, but I’m not listening to answers right now; I’m far too busy asking questions. It’s called being intellectually curious.

Worried about my friend the investigative journalist Micah Reddy, who seems to have gone missing in Djibouti. He and his family are in my thoughts.
Photo of Micah with the text:
Urgent alert 🚨: Roshan Micah Reddy, a #southafrican journalist and the #ICJI’s Africa coordinator, has gone missing in Djibouti.
He was staying at the Escale International Hotel and had been in $Djibouti since Thursday. The ICJI and the editorial team at his newspaper have had no news of him since 6.00 am (Eastern Time) this morning. He was accompanied by a local contact named Kooki Mahmoud, of whom there is also no news.
A missing person report has been filed with the #British and South African governments.
According to our information, the hotel is believed to be owned by members of the family of djiboutian President Ismaël Omar Guelleh and is known to be a stronghold of the djiboutian secret services.

I said there would be concentration camps if he was elected. WE said there would be concentration camps if he was elected. Any media not calling the camps — both inside and outside of our country — "concentration camps" is failing in their mandate to report facts, and lying to their readers.

ProPublica spoke to dozens of people who had lived in homeless encampments when cities cleared them out in “sweeps.” We distributed notecards so people could tell us about the toll in their own words. ➡️ This is what they wrote:
Handwritten notecard. Prompt at the top asks: What object was most devastating for you to lose, and how have you been coping? Answer below: Dentures. Were thrown away and coping isn't somthing I can do. It’s made me feel ugly, unworthy, can’t go get a job with no teeth. So how can get off the streets until another pair can be made?

People who say this is irrational neglect two things. * Optimizing the worst case is usually an ideal strategy, even if the mean returns are a lot lower -- we don't live in the mean world ever. * Getting $65K is an easy, automatic good for most people; having large amounts of money less so.

Hey Ezra Klein: Why Did You Stop Talking About Broadband And The Infrastructure Bill?
Last fall, Ezra Klein was getting a lot of attention for his book Abundance, which basically argued that American had become bureaucracy-obsessed and fallen out of love with building things. I thought it was mostly simplistic cack, downplaying or ignoring the fact that the U.S. government has become so blisteringly corrupt, it clearly no longer functions in the public interest.
