We don't have a recession right now, we should get rid of the tariffs and the stupid wars and abolish ICE, but none of that changes the fact that giving cash to everyone is a VERY effective response to a recession.

If something like this were done sanely (and with a lower more practical amount), most of the bill would be paid by income taxes which would come mostly from people with higher incomes. Sending everyone some cash from the govt would be a good thing to do during a recession.

Disturbed that the US Treasury Direct web site is moving to highly invasive & risky id.me third party verification simply for logging in to your account. If you won't feed id.me your information, you'll no longer be able to view your own treasury bonds info. Call a member of Congress please?

Canada, how about renaming the water passage leading to Lake Ontario "The Strait of Our Moose"? Credit to a redditor here: www.reddit.com/r/inthenews/... (Adding "Lake America" to this post for those searching bsky for that phrase so they'll see this)

One of my biggest issues with notifications on many sites is that I'm afraid to check them when I don't have a lot of time, out of fear that I'll accidentally clear notifications I didn't have time to look at. Clear easy control over which notifications care cleared vs. remain for next time, please!

No, even if it were truly anonymous it's creepy and Orwellian. Right wingers use this kind of restriction to ensure that, for example, teens can't get resources or connections about LGBT or gender issues. Forget the tech, it's an abhorrent policy regardless.

At work we have a Google Calendar app for Slack that has an option to send me a private message on Slack 1 minute before any meeting I've responded yes or maybe to. So I get a Slack notification just before a meeting is about to start.

Trump is directing the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission to prioritize cases of discrimination against white men, but commission staff are "struggling to find complaints with merit"

Four months later, in early January 2026, the same district director made the instructions more explicit, telling his reports that they should assign the top ranking to all cases claiming discrimination against white people, except those deemed to have major legal shortcomings.

The second email came weeks after Ms. Lucas released a video on social media, encouraging white men to file complaints if they experienced discrimination at work.

The video spurred shock and consternation inside the agency, employees said. In the past, they said, investigators had always pursued cases on behalf of white men when they arose. Singling them out now, at the expense of other groups, seemed to turn the E.E.O.C.’s mission, born of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, on its head.

Now, facing pressure to bring more cases for white men — as well as claims of discrimination against American-born workers and cases of systemic antisemitism — staff in several districts said they were struggling to find complaints with merit. And they said they were pressed by their superiors to look for reasons to keep those cases alive, even when evidence was weak.

The NPV is a clever idea that would be DISASTROUS in practice. Not because electing by popular vote is a problem, but because the NPV needs for each state to trust all others' process. Should California send its votes to the Republican because of vote suppression in Wisconsin? It'd be a mess.

EFF stays on social platforms they don't endorse and have strong criticisms of, because other people on those platforms need what EFF offers. But they're leaving Twitter because it's no longer relevant or impactful - because most people have left and they don't think it's worth the trouble anymore.

What's galling is that they are automating this, while still requiring us to fill out our own tax returns when the government could automate that for most people - it's also legally required! And those IDs they want to require for voting - why won't they send an ID to every legal voter, for free?

000

Cos @c0s.bsky.social · 09/04/2026

Since registering has already been legally required since the 1940s at least, this change that just does it for you rather than punishing you if you don't do it by hand, seems good to me. Regardless of how you feel about the requirement to register, which is not changing.
