The spike in that #accidentalart meant something! Taking a closer look at the deadliest day in Ireland's shipwreck history for this week's #TidyTuesday. Made in #ggplot2, greatly inspired by @ansgarw.bsky.social past work. Edited in Figma for the final highlights. #RStats #DataViz

Calendar heatmaps show the distribution of Irish shipwrecks by day of the year, with each panel representing a century compressed into a single
calendar year. The standout date is 9 February in the 19th century, with 161 recorded wrecks. An accompanying bar chart shows that this spike is driven by the Great Gale of 9 February 1861, which caused the largest number of shipwrecks recorded on a single day in the dataset.

This infographic illustrates the loss of tusks among female elephants in Southern Africa over the last century as a result of intense hunting and ivory poaching. A tusk is used metaphorically as a scale to represent the increasing prevalence of tusklessness among female elephants in the region.
