There will invariably be some signs up on the entry to the line saying "keep your head back against the restraint" or suchlike. The ride in question, X2 at Magic Mountain, is rare. As someone who spent some formative years there (doing my A-levels at St Vincent College), I entirely suspect that they absolutely ARE local to the Gosport-Fareham area. Do take note of some recent history, like how heavily the Gosport area voted for Leave. And which party Fareham's MP is in.

The independent "Bicycle Helmet Safety Institute" says no, they don't go bad just from old age alone. See helmets.org/replace/ But wear-and-tear can diminish them over time (fit-pads inside get crushed, minor drop damage adds up). My approach: when it looks old and ratty, or 10 years (or crash).
