Let me tell you a story about how top-end menswear retail transformed over the last hundred years. 🧵
Fiorinamarietta on Threads writes: "The death of department stores as an EXPERIENCE needs to be studied. You used to be able to buy a dress, have lunch, get your hair done, smell every perfume in existence and leave carrying beautifully wrapped boxes. Shopping used to be an event."

We do not build the reservoirs needed to store the rain that falls here. We do not build strategic food reserves needed to maintain provision in hard times. We failed to build effective stores of PPE, to protect us in pandemics. This country has long been governed by people who do not prepare.

‘Unbelievable’ waste and inefficiency at MoD, says ex-defence minister Al Carns
Exclusive: Carns, who quit last week, says he was angered by unwillingness to confront sunk costs of legacy programmes There is “unbelievable” waste and inefficiency at the Ministry of Defence (MoD), the former armed forces minister Al Carns has said, adding that every time he would “turn a stone over” he would get another shock. Carns said that during his time as a defence minister he had been angered by the unwillingness to confront the sunk costs of legacy programmes – and suggested mismanaged programmes such as tanks investment should be scrapped in favour of new technology. Photo of a small group of mostly men wearing black, with masks and balaclavas, surrounded by a Police Scotland cordon in the bottom of the photo, in the foreground. In the background, a very large colourful crowd of people with saltires, trade union banners, and hand-made signs in support of migrants and against racism have turned up to gather to show solidarity, and the far right guys were hoping to thwart that. They didn't.

I'm actually quite tired of repeating over and over, but the entire right-wing cesspool of oligarchs, tech, and media (especially in America) seeks to dismantle British democracy and society. This can only be counteracted if it's treated as the grave national security threat that it clearly is.

'Castle' One of the limited-edition prints in my shop www.tomgauld.com/shop
A gothic castle in the transylvanian mountains.

A great bear of a man, waring a stovepipe hat and carrying a cane: "Now that you are my bride, you will never leave this castle!"

His new bride replies "Wow! Your library is amazing!"

He continues "Beyond the castle is a high wall with no gate, and beyond that is a deep. Dark forest with no path."

She pulls a volume from a great bookcase, "I suppose it's my library too, now we're married."

He goes on "The forest is crawling with ravenous wolves, malignant birds and the spirits of long-dead travellers."

Ignoring him, carrying a pile of hardbacks "So many books! I can't believe My luck!"

He has sprouted wings, claws and cloven hoofs.
"When the sun sets, I transform into a wild beast and soar into the night, seized by a terrible bloodlust!"

She sits, examining her books as he flies out the window "Ok. I'll stay here and read. See you in the morning"
