We encountered evil. Calling to wipe Israel off the map, calling @mayor.nyc.gov a bootlicker, baby killer, traitor, or whatever other vile slurs you can invent does not make you brave, principled, or pro Palestinian. It exposes something much uglier:🧵 www.nytimes.com/video/us/100...

Unfortunately the Minister probably just added an extra couple of zeros onto the settlement these three referees are gonna get if WP follows through and dismisses them. The Minister should work on changing the law so character references are unacceptable for all rapists rather than only this one.

At the time of the deal that created this Nasdaq-listed joint venture, partner Hut 8 Inc. bought World Liberty tokens. Eric Trump also got a stake in American Bitcoin, at no cost.

A company controlled by Donald Trump’s revocable trust is entitled to 75% of net revenue from token sales by World Liberty Financial.

Donald Trump licensed his name and image to a company called Celebration Cards LLC, which raised enormous sums selling the digital token.

The Nasdaq-listed company, recently renamed AI Financial Corp., raised money from investors to buy World Liberty Financial tokens.

Using the Bible as a literal prop: a cushion for his hands, whilst the text is ignored. No one who values a Bible would rest the weight of their hands on one like this, damaging the spine and very thin pages. It is so disrespectful.

So yes Albo’s govt received more in tax than royalties on the ore ( because Cth gets nil) but the State royalties would’ve been orders of magnitude higher, even per year, and especially when factoring in the decades of mining in dispute in the case.

To do some very rough calcs, 29 barristers x $6000/day x 1 year of total time on the case (spread out over the whole dispute) = $63m. At 30% tax = $20m.

www.watc.wa.gov.au/media/4vtbsh... WA Iron Ore Royalties
The Western Australian Government’s iron ore royalty
receipts fell 17% to $8.6 billion in 2024-25.
The peak value of Western Australia’s iron ore royalty
receipts in a financial year was $10.8 billion in 2021-22.
• In 2024-25, iron ore royalties accounted for 87% of Western
Australia’s royalty receipts (excluding North West Shelf
grants).
• The WA State Budget 2025-26 forecasts iron ore royalty
income to fall from $8.6 billion in 2024-25 to $5.8 billion in
2028-29, based on the assumption that the iron ore price will
decline to its long-term average over the period.

Sorry I didn’t see your reply until now. Minerals royalties are paid to State not Cth. WA collected over $8bn in iron ore royalties 2024-25. Hancock said it paid $551m in royalties+native title combined; don’t have a split figure. Iron ore royalty is 7.5% of sales value in WA. Significant sums.

Pierre Bourdieu once argued that the question of whether something is art isn't answered by the artist's intention or even the object itself. Instead, the quality of being "art" is conferred by a community — curators, dealers, auction houses, audiences, etc. 🧵
Someone on Threads writes: "The Met Gala feels like real dystopian shit.

People can’t afford groceries or gas. But we’re going to celebrate this event which is nothing more than wealth porn."

What you describe - republic, treaty, replacement with a new nation but not necessarily new peoples - is not what Chun is calling for. He wants “destruction” of Australia. Decolonisation = removal of non-indigenous people. That is ethnic cleansing.

The question missed the point. Australia was built on many things. I do agree there were massacres and other horrendous, inexcusable atrocities. I am not sure Australia was ‘built on’ those events. In any case it is here now. Feel free to be a revolutionary - I think better to work with reality.

Not close to what he wrote? Title: We don’t mourn fascists. Mourning the victims was “perform[ing] respectability“ because they didn’t deserve their “default innocence”. He repeatedly conflates the victims with the organiser and uses that as a basis on which to attack those who mourned.
