An update: the Edmonton public school board passed the motion to examine registration policies, and may make recommendations to align them with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (if that's in the board's authority). Timeline unclear: chair Saadiq Sumar says it won't rush this work. #AbEd

My current knit wip is a pair of split-toe house socks (no pattern, making it up as I go along). I sent my sister a photo of them on my feet and she said they look like socks for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 😭😵 (she’s not wrong, though) #ShowMeYourKnits 🧶🧦

The socks are a mottled blueish-grey at the toes, and striped with dark blue through the rest of the foot.Me modelling one partially finished sock, still on the needlesThe teenage mutant ninja turtles sit on top of a building, eating pizza. I’ve been off the bike for a few weeks but today I went on a 17 km trip (buying fb marketplace yarn) and what a rush!!! Perfect weather! Not too sunny or warm or cold. No need for gloves or a brimmed hat, and no worries about getting sweaty. Got some good leaf crunches too. I love early autumn.

here we find Eliezer Yudkowsky engaging in the classic 90s and 2000s genre of “insecure straight guy getting really defensive about liking Buffy the Vampire Slayer”
3.3: What's your favorite television show?
Actually, there's only one television show worth watching. This show is by far superior to every other television show I've ever seen, up to and including Babylon Five. If you've ever seen this show, you already know what my favorite show is. Not even the fraction of a doubt has crossed your mind.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
3.4: You watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer?
"Eliezer watches Buffy? That's wonderful! So he is mortal, after all."
I get that reaction often, always from people who have never seen the show. Anyone who has seen the show, especially the second season, knows better than to be reassured.
NOTE: In recent times - the fourth season - the quality has gone far downhill, alas. The comments below should
be taken as referring to the first through third seasons.
But just to set a few matters straight: Buffy is an extremely intelligent and high-quality show. Magic has rules on Buffy; they're never explained, but they're very clearly there. All the people behave like real human beings. Buffy is "realistic"
", in the sense that it depicts exactly what would happen, given the show's
premises. The characters are intelligent and emotionally mature. Finally, I do not watch Baywatch, and I see no reason why people should assume that I watch Buffy for the same reason they watch Baywatch.
(30).
That said...
"I wish I could be a lot of things for you. A great student, a star athlete, remotely normal. I'm not.
But there is something I do that I can do better than anybody else in the world..."
- Buffy Summers, to her mother, in Graduation Day I
Do you even need to ask?
Well, yes, you do. It'd be a mistake to focus too much on the fact that Buffy Summers is the one girl in all the world with the strength and speed to hunt the vampires, and I'm the one Specialist working on Al.
Remember, I have no emotional need to be special. I've spent my whole life being special.
We all have secret little ridiculous dreams. It's a large part of who…

Just noticed this on the website of an Ontario-based yarn shop. I’ve shopped there in the past but I’m seeing this notice for the first time today. It’s the part about ICE that made me go “whoa.” I would be glad to see more Canadian businesses be this candid and straightforward about the US regime.
Shipping Costs - Domestic or International

SUSPENSION OF SHIPMENTS TO THE USA:

Due to the cancellation of the de minimus exemption and the outrageous demand from the US government that we are required to collect and pre-pay all tariff charges that US customers will owe to their government before we ship, we have suspended all sales to the USA.

As a matter of principle, we refuse to collect and remit taxes on behalf of a foreign government; this is not and has never been our responsibility. We also, as a matter of principle, refuse to collect taxes that the US government will use to fund ICE.
