The California Nebula (Also known NGC 1499 or Sh2-220) is an emission nebula located in the constellation Perseus. Its name comes from its resemblance to the outline of the U.S. State of California. It is about 1300 LY distant. Roughly 5 hours of exposure on October 8, 2026. #Astrophotography
The California Nebula is roughly 100 light-years long and spans about 2.5 degrees across the night sky (equal to five full Moons side by side).
It emits a vibrant red and magenta glow caused by hydrogen gas being ionized (energized and stripped of electrons) by a nearby star, Xi Persei (also known as Menkib), a hot, blue O-type giant star located right next to the nebula.

There are some houselights in the foothills of the mountains.Crop showing meteor detail. There is a distinct flare about 20% from the tip. The tail is slightly green.
