like this type of argument is just nonsensical, uwu-we're-just-a-little-guy stuff. people are asking rodericks to meet the standards of, like, the mod team of a large subreddit. "bluesky is free, why do you expect us to do all this mod work for you" is like, okay what are you even paid to do?

The source for this graph is an AI benchmarking company, so most likely just bullshit data anyway, but I like the implication that either 1. Claude Opus 5 used em dashes roughly 15 times more often than is optimal, 2. Anthropic panic overcorrected and basically beat the em dashes out of it
Graph comparing the em dash frequency of different Anthropic models, showing a decrease of 15.2 per 1000 words on Opus 5, to 0.8 on Opus 5.5

Your second example is closer to what I'm thinking, yeah, though I am mainly thinking of this in the context of like, commercial illustration rather than cartoons. What raised the question for me is this game, Stip, which uses the technique (but isn't otherwise doing midcentury-modern stuff really)

A version of the "Aella's birthday gangbang" Sankey diagram but it's about Bluesky posters thinking about posting Sankey diagram jokes, leading from "thought about Sankey diagram joke" through various iterations of workshopping and writing the joke (with various dead ends due to forgetting about it, losing interest, etc). Eventually at the end the joke is finally posted; some posters do numbers with it, some don't, some came in a fluffer

Like check out those faces. Those are not "good" faces but they definitely are faces. I presume some of these characters get eaten over the course of the story. Maybe it depends on your choices.
lady with an undercut making a sour face. she has something indistinct in her mouth, perhaps a piece of black licoricedowncast-looking young woman wearing a leather collar with a vaguely heart shaped object attached to ithomely young lady in a 1940s haircut and glasses looking into the middle distance, perhaps thinking about being eatenrosy-cheeked, blue-haired middle-aged woman smiling at the camera. she has what looks like a tracheostomy scar.

like I don't really think this is the face of a man who was drawn by hand. But if that was all I would not be posting about it, the thing is that the *story* in question is uhhhh, it's erotic cannibalism fiction?

poster in a million different typefaces. it reads: In this house we know this is my hole; and it's always midsommar; we don't tolerate sickos nor maidenless behavior; our outie listens to death grips and mains faust; we love mandy and her color out of space; and when you add kurt angle to the mix; we face god and walk backwards into hell; we keep our blades in the dark; and we do believe it: it's a friday once again; we commit crimes of the future; because our flag means death; we get the wordle in three; we wait for third impact; hitting everything everywhere all at once; 16 feet through the announcer's table; we don't have to do naything any more; ever, never, ever; we always say "ring-a-ding-ding, baby"; because this House always wins; we could make this place beautiful; because it has good bones; and one more thing: we rewatch the sopranos

This part is also super interesting to me because I am old enough to remember when part of the sales pitch for autonomous vehicles was that they could coordinate, that you'd replace traffic with a "swarm" of vehicles acting in concert to move safely but faster than humans.
So it’s just a massive fuckstorm because they don’t have reasoning in that capacity. The cars don’t talk to each other. If a car sees that there’s 10 cars in front of it that are all trying to move at the same time, they don’t respond to each other. It’s just based on what it as an individual is trying to accomplish, and trying to make sure it doesn’t crash into anything. So it’ll over-yield and sit there waiting for something to get out of its way. Because the main thing with Waymo is they don’t want these things to crash.

After carefully scrobbling through Nvidia's NBA2k preview video I realized they do show exactly one shot of a woman, an extremely brief shot of Olivia Miles taking a free throw. Her face is visible for like five frames before being obscured by the basketball. Draw your own conclusions

So it's useful to talk about the specific ways in which this argument is dishonest because I think a lot of liberal and left-leaning people are very vulnerable to this rhetorical bludgeon—the idea that you should "listen to experts". But let's unpack what exactly Giggies here means by "experts".
SE Gyges : this was early enough that it was very insightful and is now sort of transparently true if you think the gizmo isn't useful you're ignoring most major software project and all computer security professionals, you basically have to spit on expertise as a concept

As a somewhat apples-to-oranges point of comparison, this free-to-play MMO launched not a year ago has fewer players on Steam right now than Destiny 2, a game that has been discontinued by its publisher and shipped its end-of-life update two months ago.

By the way, talking about the supposed commercial potential of LLMs and "infinite" games? Remember Where Winds Meet, the big new MMO from NetEase that had chatbot NPCs and got some press coverage about it? It is down 90% from its peak concurrent players.
