i'm reminded of the thread here a few months ago where someone didn't believe D-Day happened. They had read somewhere that the Soviets won WW2 by themselves (actual answer: complicated but the USSR did carry the majority of the weight) so extrapolated from that, that the D-Day invasion was a lie.

In the past, some countries would telegraph limited retaliation - for example when the US bombed a target in Iran a few years back due to Iran hitting Israel, Iran telegraphed "we're going to send a missile at your base in Qatar" and then did so, where it was easily intercepted. This is not that.
