CO2 emissions from China are down 1.6% for Q1 2025 and 1% for the past 12 months. The greater deployment of renewables relative to fossil fuels appears to be starting to cut into emissions. 🧪🔌💡☀️💨🔋 www.carbonbrief.org/analysis-cle...
CO2 emissions from China are down 1.6% for Q1 2025 and 1% for the past 12 months. The most recent peak in CO2 emissions from China was back in March 2024. Emissions are dropping because despite continuing to build out fossil fuels, renewable capacity and generation has increased in China and many sectors of their economy now have emissions that are flat or dropping.

There is no country/zone with a) high prices and low carbon emissions or b) with low prices and high emissions. The higher the carbon emissions from electricity generation in 2024, the higher the prices and vice versa. HT Esko Heinonen

Italy's energy regulator extends until 2027 the scheme that allows households to benefit from additional capacity (6kW) at night and weekends to charge their EVs at no additional network charge. This scheme incentivises more efficient use of the grid by shifting most home charging to off-peak hours.

A typical European car is parked 92% of the time. It spends 1/5th of its driving time looking for parking. Its 5 seats only move 1.5 people. 86% of its fuel never reaches the wheels, and most of the energy that does, moves the car, not the people. Sound efficient? HT @ellenmacarthurfdn.bsky.social

It's clear you aren't going to grasp this. No one ( and I mean no one) is planning to be solely reliant on wind and solar for electricity, even if the amount of W&S is increased and therefore reduces the amount of fossil fuel used. Here's the grids plans. www.neso.energy/publications...

Yep, he hasn't got a clue what he's talking about. Heat pumps don't care whether the electricity is generated by wind, solar or gas. They are just a more efficient way of converting electrical energy into heat.

Steve Long @brknman.bsky.social · 20/01/2025
I'm smart enough to see you have zero evidence to support your arguments and so think spouting opinion will hide your inadequacies.
000
Steve Long @brknman.bsky.social · 20/01/2025
Look carefully at the text that is in quotes. Nothing that says heat pumps are more expensive or will never be cheaper. You've been duped.
000
Steve Long @brknman.bsky.social · 20/01/2025
If your home receives electricity, you can heat your home. Without electricity your gas boiler doesn't work and the pumps that push gas to peoples houses don't work. No electricity, no gas heating. You really didn't think this through.

Steve Long @brknman.bsky.social · 20/01/2025
His words - heat pumps will reduce consumers bills. "The potential around heat pumps, I think we are underestimating the extent with 1/2hrly settlement this can really make a massive difference to consumers and lead to lower bills" Game over.

This is evasion. The argument is whether electricity is as reliable as gas for domestic heating. Why do you struggle with this? A heat pump could be powered by electricity 100% generated by gas and it would still be 2-3x more efficient at providing the same amount of heat.
100
Steve Long @brknman.bsky.social · 17/01/2025
Lol!! I provided video evidence of his comments. You made it up. More specifically he said adoption of heat pumps with TOU tariffs would make consumers bills cheaper. So why are you ignoring this?
000
Steve Long @brknman.bsky.social · 17/01/2025
He didn't say it would cause hardship. He said people wouldn't be persuaded if it did cause hardship . Your comprehension skills are shocking .
000
Steve Long @brknman.bsky.social · 17/01/2025
That's the point, You have been spoonfed a meaning that doesn't exist in the ministers evidence. As I have already quoted to you.

Steve Long @brknman.bsky.social · 17/01/2025
So we have to assume again you have no quote. Let me provide one for you from his statement. "The potential around heat pumps, I think we are underestimating the extent with 1/2hrly settlement this can really make a massive difference to consumers and lead to lower bills" 16:32pm

Steve Long @brknman.bsky.social · 17/01/2025
Finally an admission that you made it up. If never is the case.. how comes it's already true in most of Europe and for those in the UK on TOU tariffs? That you are now down to personal insults shows how weak your argument is.
100
Steve Long @brknman.bsky.social · 17/01/2025
So what did he say? Provide an exact quote please instead of arguing on the basis of what you think he said.
210
Steve Long @brknman.bsky.social · 17/01/2025
Your argument has zero sense . We aren't comparing a gas boiler to wind power. We are comparing heat derived from domestic gas to using electricity. You do know 25% of our electricity is generated by burning gas and NESO includes abated gas beyond 2050?
000
Steve Long @brknman.bsky.social · 17/01/2025
The question again isn't what I or you claim. It's what the UK government minister actually said. So quote to me what he actually said that supports your claim.
000
Steve Long @brknman.bsky.social · 17/01/2025
"he conceded they are not cheaper. " Can you give me the time in the submission to the select committee when this was said and what his actual words were?
