I hope Bo French’s comments hit personally w/the CA transplant Indian Am’s who believed themselves exception. In TX, we tend to steer blue but in my brother’s (wealthy tech) suburb, 40% voted Trump. Since then, the “Don’t India my TX” hate group has served a reality check in that no one is safe.

My family is mixed Gujarati Hindu & Pakistani Sikh. My Sikh grandma was in hiding during India’s Partition & lost many Muslim friends. Trauma made her suspect of Hindu’s. Dad’s family was in Kenya but propoganda seeped through. I share this b/c generational trauma & my grandmas lessons shaped me.

I was both in the UK as was my brother. My sister in law & neice & nephew were born & raised here. She’s 1st generation, they’re 2nd. My Dad was born in Tanzania but lived in London for 17 yrs. His parents were born in Kenya. My maternal grandpa served w/the UN. 2/4 children don’t even speak Hindi.

Christopher Rufo, longtime right-wing agitator, recently recorded a podcast in which he discussed “the Indian Question" an explicit nod to "the Jewish Question" that so animated Adolf Hitler.

Rufo's "Indian Question" concerns whether Indian-Americans are sufficiently assimilated to American culture, or whether they must be (forcibly) "remigrated" back to India. Rufo's reflections were prompted by a viral Bo French tweet, in which he expresses shock and horror at South Asians enjoying college football at UT Austin.

The only exception I’ve ever taken to the death penalty is in respect to crimes against humanity, in facilitating genocide, but even here I think there is a moral harm amongst those who must facilitate & the possibility of making the perpetrator a martyr which then can cause more harm.

Post election I looked into local media in Texas border towns. All subsidiaries. Most people in the US aren’t tuned in. Media wasn’t covering the truth & people trust their local news. Should they have paid better attention? Of course, but (by design) some in this demo didn’t know any better.

Did you catch his speech from Peterbilt yesterday? He said that gas cost less than under Biden & went off about affordability being a made up word. It was fantastic. The crowd looked uncomfortable & was mostly silent. I hope some of them were annoyed enough to sit out voting. (I don’t expect flips)

My husband is 5th gen Texan. His g-parents settled in Dallas in the 40’s. Circa late 90’s, his summer job was at a Jewish deli frequented by the Marcus family. Kind, tipped well. In our 20’s, I gifted him the 1 & only item I’d ever purchased from Neiman’s, a prada wallet. That was a v diff time.

As an Indian American, I have zero desire to live in Plano or Frisco but Flock cameras are def a state wide issue. Abbott recently hit pause since most Texans are anti surveillance. Denton has some but city wide, we’re statistically lower. That sucks that it’s bad in Plano. I’m sorry.
