Chris Hipkins just called out Christopher Luxon’s BS on immigration. If he wanted to nip the Farage-esque rhetoric being lobbed at immigrants in the bud he would have demoted Winston Peters. Luxon let him stay Foreign Minister because he knew a demotion would trigger a snap election. #nzpol

Luxon said it’s important to support the arts. He lied through his teeth. The National Party have done the opposite. Quite a few festivals have collapsed during this term. #nzpol

OpenAI safety leader quits, warning AI company’s culture is ‘broken’
David Robinson joins other insiders in urging industry to take more care over rapidly developing technology A safety leader at OpenAI has quit the company, warning that its culture was broken and that AI firms were not “being nearly careful enough” about developing the technology. David Robinson, who led the writing of safety reports that accompanied the ChatGPT developer’s product releases, explained his resignation in an essay headlined, “I quit OpenAI because its culture is broken”. To a president who desecrates memorials. Your name shouldn’t go on it because it’s not yours. Build another (lesser) art centre, cover it in gold leaf and make it really tacky. Whack your name up on that instead.

Christopher Luxon is a coward. He knows he should sack Winston Peters from his role of Foreign Minister for his racist slur. But he won’t because he knows it would cause the government’s coalition to collapse. He knows there’s a strong chance National wouldn’t win a snap election. Pathetic.

Cartoon. Title: “Glory Days” The image shows Winston Peters standing on a peak, king of all he surveys. Surveys being the operative word. He’s saying, “In the past we raped, pillaged and plundered this glorious land. And with the help of our coalition partners we’ll rape, pillage and plunder again!” Down to the left Shane Jones is crawling up the slope, burdened down with a pack, pick axe, spade, bucket etc, and saying, “Coming, my liege. Ow, ow, ow, the matua needs some kneepads”

What happens if Belgium wins against the USA? Is the result allowed to stand or will Trump call Gianni Infantino to get it overturned? I think he’s deranged enough to try his luck. I really hope FIFA has an overhaul after this World Cup. Politics has no place in football, it’s ruining it!

The dream that NZ could win was there for the majority of the first half. A relatively short lived but nevertheless beautiful dream. I think that was one of the best halves I’ve ever seen the All Whites play. Despite the result, I still stand by one of my mantras. Never underestimate the underdog.

They're right you know
Post from Shaneel Lal

“ This is classic ruling-class politics: divide working people along the lines of identity so they never look up at the people actually causing harm.

Who’s taking your jobs? “The immigrants,” they say, while the government cuts 10,000 jobs.

Who’s harming women and girls? “Transgender people,” they say, while they strip pay equity from women-dominated professions.

Who’s taking the land and housing? “Māori,” they say, while they hand tax cuts and wealth to landlords and the wealthy.

Working people are being turned against one another while those in power continue to profit.

We need solidarity across our communities because if we allow ourselves to be divided by race, gender, sexuality, or identity, this government and the ruling class will pick us apart until all of us are left worse off.”
