This is a helpful short thread, but CW for SA in recent news, even though it’s awful that none of it is NEW. Blaming the victim, discrediting SA reporters (sometimes even by news reporters! 🤬), and shrugging it off are all ways of keeping the status quo strong. All of which is utterly unacceptable!

I'm not saying every brand in Canada has to be a franglish pun, but Milk 2 Go/Lait's Go is a true masterpiece.
An image from the Lait's Go website with the text "Lait's Go: Fabriques au Canada, avec du lait de fermes Canadiennes" Below, three Lait's Go milk-on-the-go bottles in different flavours splash down into milk. It's milk all the way down, people.

Saw that Spider-Noir was free with ads on my old (free) Amazon account & watched E1 during my morning workout. Went to queue up E2 during cooldown & realized it’s just the pilot that’s free. Won’t pay $157 to watch one show, so I’ll trust @authoredrobins.bsky.social that it’s all that good for now.🤷

I learned so much work and life skills by doing the grunt work myself for years. All those things AI companies deem "automatable". Do I "enjoy" doing my taxes? Reading contracts? Managing files? Not really. But I'm now relatively good at a bunch of "adult" stuff that don't seem that daunting now.

Attention all canvassers: Cold-texting my cell phone with baiting headlines at all hours of the day and night just gets you blocked. I’m not responding, I’m not texting STOP, I’m not giving you even a whiff of engagement. You’re wasting my time and your life fishing for interest on my personal cell.

E.B. White established this in 1949! Move on already!
Screenshot from E.B. White's essay "Here is New York": "There are roughly three New Yorks. There is, first, the New York of the man or woman who was born here, who takes the city for granted and accepts its size and its turbulence as natural and inevitable. Second, there is the New York of the commuter —the city that is devoured by locusts each day and spat out each night. Third, there is the New York of the person who was born somewhere else and came to New York in quest of something. Of these three trembling cities the greatest is the last— the city of final destination, the city that is a goal. It is this third city that accounts for New York's high-strung disposition, its poetical deportment, its dedication to the arts, and its incomparable achievements. Commuters give the city its tidal restlessness; natives give it solidity and continuity; but the settlers give it passion."

We need to shut them down.

Don't be fooled into thinking that a "free market" only exists when corporations get to "self-regulate" and do whatever they want. And don't be led to think that the government is "intruding" into the market when it crafts laws to protect the public. The real issue is power — and who has it.

Chai and Charmcraft by Lynn Strong: Faraj is a middle-aged fat brown man with silver streaks in his hair and a shy smile, holding a glass of chai with sparkling steam. He is wearing richly embroidered and gilded saffron dyed silk, but he looks much happier about the cat. A golden-eyed gray cat looks at him, mostly, except that she's enough of a cat to have a mischievous hint of side-eye too.
