Happy Belated International Translation Day with my little stack✨ (minus We the Children of Cats by Tomoyuki Hoshino, which I seem to have given my last copy away of)

The spines of books I've translated: capital from zero, the shining sea, the dilemmas of working women, sunrise, trinity trinity trinity, hotel lucky seven, and slow down

Little disappointed in ANN's headline here. Tsuda's point was still made, and Japan has now made it very clear that actor's voices do, in fact, belong to them. www.theguardian.com/technology/2...

My mother is a Dr Pepper addict, and when she was visiting me years ago in Japan, we couldn't really find it anywhere, but we never gave up, and I'll never forget the feeling when we ran across a vending machine in a park in the middle of nowhere that had not only regular Dr Pepper but also Diet!

Book 154 of 2026: Animals Brag About Their Bottoms by Maki Saito, translated by Brian Bergstrom. What’s not to love about a #BoardBook about animal butts? My kids LOVE it and I suspect it will be on our shelves and reread through til my kids are adults. #KidLit #BookSky #WorldKidLitMonth

Gros bisous à @nouveauprojet.bsky.social for highlighting The Dilemmas of Working Women in their September issue!

The Dilemmas of Working Women

Fumio Yamamoto

Harper Collins

Finished, finally, an overdue book translation today, so bought myself a treat: another butt mug

A white mug with a drawing of hot naked lifeguard (?) on it, and his butt is the sun. There's lettering that says Good rimming sunshine! beneath him.

Look, I don't get it either, but I nonetheless love it

I'm foolishly reading three books at once again, but one of them is the new Kōhei Saitō book, Capital From Zero, and so far, it's excellent. I love that he consistently references present-day concerns such as bubble tea and fast fashion.

I'm teaching Okazaki Kyoko's manga this semester, and I'm glad the English versions by Vertical are still available, but I'll never get over how they credit everyone by name (including the cover designer!) except the translator/s, who aren't even listed in the copyright info! Completely erased

The cover of the English translation of Helter Skelter, with the unnecessary added subtitle Fashion Unfriendly

The back cover of Helter Skelter, which includes a blurb with too many spoilers for my taste, and a highlighted credit for the cover designer (Nicole Dochych)

One of full color spreads from the front if the book, reproduced exactly from the original -- beautiful

The copyright page from the translation, which credits the translation to Vertical but names no individual translators
