I agree, it's overall better and I prefer her use of "sin" over his use of "guilt" for 罪悪, but I prefer his rendering of the "cut my heart open and let my blood flow onto your face"* passage in Sensei's testament, for example. Sometimes his old school terseness is really effective! *Paraphrase

Teaching Kokoro this week -- it seems trite to say, as it's so canonical, but what a book! An elegant knife straight in the heart, as the title implies Both translations have their merits as well! Which makes it fun to teach

He is truly the best. The House with the Clock in Its Walls manages to be, by turns, cozy and absolutely chilling, which seems like it shouldn't be possible. The homey (heimlich) and the uncanny (unheimlich) reflect and amplify each other.

I might be wrong about some of these, but the characters going down the left side strike me as being 戊寅末秋日鳥戊寅=the year (earth tiger, cosmologically): 1818 or 1878 or 1938 or 1998 末 would be the end, so the end of that year on an autumn day: 秋日 and it's a bird: 鳥 definitely just a guess!
