We're now on 4 proven interventions thanks to employment data lab - no one has beaten Resurgo yet - so an increasing body of evidence to inform funding decisions from DWP, councils, philanthropists and others

Interesting that Humber Learning Consortium work with enough SEND young people to analyse this subgroup - a first for data lab. They have success at supporting these yp to be "looking for work", rather than gaining work. I suspect this is common to a lot of programmes - more to do here

Firstly, big shout out to @mynottingham.bsky.social - we need local and national government to evaluate their work more, and I hope your example will be followed by others. A role for the LGA here

Good start to the day talking Conservatives and civil society thanks to @probonoecon.bsky.social. Stuart Andrew wants regular engagement with the third sector - suspect we want the same! #PBEevents

The basic problem with "ancestry" as the basis for identity is I literally wasn't alive then. I'm an Essex Boy, English, and British because it's literally all I've ever known

One of the main things I notice about employment rights is that many of the working-class folk I know were neither granted or aware of those rights, & many of the middle class folk I know assumed that rights were universally known & granted.
A screenshot of an excerpt from the piece to which the post links. It says “Efforts to tally up specific breaches point to problems on a breath-taking, and under-addressed, scale. According to the Government’s own estimates, 365,000 workers were paid less than the minimum wage to which they are entitled – and yet HMRC only uncovers around a third as many individual cases, and imposes penalties in fewer still. Many other supposedly well-established ‘day one’ rights turn out to be hard to cash in: 900,000 workers report receiving no paid holiday; 600,000 who were meant to be automatically enrolled in a pension that the employer chips into, had not in fact been so; and an astonishing 1.8 million don’t get the payslip they are entitled to, in order to check they are getting what they’re due.”

Salary and value aren't the same thing. Do you want high starting salaries and low progression thereafter; or high salaries, high progression and high cost?

I can sort of understand rubbernecking at a semi serious accident being your immediate reaction - but why does 2% of the population have a real problem with being politely encouraged to give an injured person some privacy?

Very good thread. I'd note this focuses primarily on *output* targets for public services (waiting times, exam results etc.] Of course what we (politicians, public) are really interested in are *outcomes* [health of the population/ourselves, education quality, incomes] But.. [1/2]

Motivation was I couldn't believe it and wanted to know if it was true! I'm sorry if "several" was off-putting. Based on a quick bit of Wikipedia, it's at least three in the full cabinet, but not every school is listed for everyone (and to be a pendant, Miliband was abroad for a bit)

Out of interest though Nandy - Prep school (then same secondary as Powell!)

I didn't check every Cabinet member, I just found these discrepancies and concluded the claim isn't quite right. Assuming good faith, I did some digging (I work in the education space) and a colleague made the Sutton Trust point. At this point I'm trying to understand not just be a pendant!

Several cabinet members spent at least some time at a fee paying school, including Starmer. Benn went to prep school. We think this might be based on a Sutton Trust definition of "majority state educated"

Today, the govt has confirmed National Funding Formula allocations for schools in England An extra £2.3bn was announced in the Autumn Budget. About £1bn is going on high needs. The rest is going on mainstream schools, but the funding rises probably won't cover schools expected costs next year 🧵

This is not a bad thing - training providers should be selective about who they work with, and focus on those who they are best placed to help. But it does make it hard to know what would have happened to those young people without the intervention

Also out today, outcomes only findings for Generation UK, a skills bootcamp provider funded by @impetusuk.bsky.social. About 70% of their young people are employed after a year (much higher than other programmes) but there's no counterfactual because they are so selective about who they train
