A lovely ode to living, to not being suffocated by one's regrets, and to realizing the "big importance of small things." If you haven't read Haig before, this is a great introduction to him, his style, his worldview, and his gentle awe of the world and appreciation for being alive. I loved it.

I’ve been a media witness to two federal executions. One was Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh. The other, a week later, was a drug kingpin named Juan Raul Garza. My conclusion after watching both men die: The death penalty should not exist. Period. It fixes nothing, and it erodes our souls.

Pretty clear to me there’s a very good case against this man for mass murder, and I’m saying that in as measured a fashion as I can. He’s order the killing of 234 people under no plausible war or legal justification. I am skeptical he will ever face legal accountability for til his but he should.

Something I've been thinking about with respect to AI is that even if you are trying to avoid it in your work (I'm not opposed to it for helping sift through or double check large data sets, for example, but for actual writing, no), it's inevitable that someone you're working with *is* using it.

I finally caught up with S2 of Paradise. It reminded me of The Good Place with the swings it takes. Every episode ends upending expectations. It also does different things with a post-apocalyptic world I welcomed. Sterling Brown is fun to watch as a stoic, steadfast bad-ass.

I somehow overlooked a top three show for me (I was too hasty in making my list): Smallville. Such a quintessential coming-of-age show, and also, it’s Superman, c’mon. And out of this list, its theme song clears all of them. (I would replace Furious since it’s ongoing.)

I'm always down for a globe-trotting, ass-kicking thriller as a palate cleanser — a way to have fun after a heavier book. This was fast-paced and intriguing to be in a different part of the world with Central Africa and those dynamics, and Munroe was a compelling, nuanced enough protagonist.

The CW idea impeachment backfires isn't true. Nor is there any value in surrendering in advance on conviction. But there's a more important long-term consideration. Looking at all this and saying nope, we're not even going to say he should be removed, is locking in a message for future presidents.

This is so dumb. There are no *good* arguments against impeachment, but the idea that you're going to focus on passing "compromise" legislation instead is silly even on its own terms. You can both impeach and pass bills (and he'll veto anything of substance). Congress can do multiple things at once.

Trump thinks he can unilaterally dictate the names of things, which parallels his view that he can take unilateral action to build memorials in his honor, or tear down the East Wing or the Kennedy Center--in the latter case, after his efforts to rename it the Trump/Kennedy Center were rejected.
