Anyways, if you haven’t go listen to Wendy Carlos’ “Beauty in the Beast” or “Digital Moonscapes” right now. There’s no way to do it while supporting her unfortunately, but you can at least celebrate her genius and dream of a better tomorrow

I think a lot about why Wendy Carlos’ albums are out of print and her wonderful website is now reserved for having a friend of hers tell people to leave her alone. It’s so fucking heart breaking what the world does to trans women

It is pretty wild how insanely close the current round of AI+sexuality+SF+rationalist discourse is to the plot of Terra Ignota. Ada Palmer is basically a prophet.

No, SungWon is absolutely correct here. The insistence on sticking with the Japanese title when there is already a perfectly acceptable English one is utterly asinine. Nobody does this in Japanese literature, or film, or any other art form. It's just the anime nerds who insist on being obtuse.

An interesting demo of the bait and switch is seen in responses to James Talarico, where he opposed trans minors playing sports, plus trans minor medical procedures, plus denied the reality of nonbinary & intersex folks, and the responses were "what's the big deal? he was just talking about sports".

The Rs are doing a full-spectrum assault on the existence of anyone not cis and straight, and saying it is about "boys playing girls sports". And every D who looks at that and goes "yeah, I oppose boys in girls sports" is endorsing the effort. Because they're affirming "sports" is all the Rs did.

Forget the $5,000 you wont get. Vote democratic socialist this election cycle and this will be Kirk and Spock going forward.
A screenshot of a tweet by ZhaoYunSpitoon replying to @CadetMisty, featuring a photo of two people cosplaying as Star Trek characters seated at a table with a 3D chess set. The person on the left, styled as Spock with a black bowl cut and pointed ears, is mid-motion pulling a black long-sleeved shirt over their head, revealing a black crop top and leggings, with black boots resting on the floor nearby. On the right, a person in a yellow Starfleet uniform shirt and black pants sits casually with crossed legs, smiling and holding a small object to their chin while looking at the other person.

There’s no real case for tangible benefit to most people, or at least that’s not what is centered in the arguments. It’s like trying to sell a refrigerator not with “and you’ll go get groceries less often!” but with “cause if you don’t get one, your spouse will leave you for someone with one.”

At the end of the day the biggest problem with this tech isn’t the apocalypse shit, it’s that it’s the first major technology that isn’t being pitched as a help to your life, but as a hinderance if you fail to embrace it.

The directionality is wrong. We should be asking why so many parents are driving away their children. Parents say "my kids won't talk to me, and I don't know why", but the kids can articulate the reasons. The parents *do* know why, but they won't accept it or work to fix the relationship.

Will note further, as I have said a million times, this is why it’s valuable to make politicians say “woke” things. Most people are not good at lying. Even when they think they’re lying, they have to believe the thing long enough to say it. Before they know it, they think it’s reasonable, at least.

I came up with some more inane bullshit for everyone to argue about!
(September 23, 2026 at 10:44am)
Fake opinions to argue over…
- Never turn left on a first date.
- Every kindergarten student should have an unpaid internship.
- The periodic table is too sexual.
- Bigfoot should be allowed to vote.
- Having a dream is the same as reading a book.
- You can wear a crop top to a funeral if the deceased person was hot when they died.
