idk why anyone would object to twitter, about two thirds of what it shows me is horny harry potter content and only about half of that is explicitly white-nationalist or nazi

The Ukrainians have conclusively proven that if you deliver a large quantity of high explosives into a server rack it causes a minor emotional event for regional ISPs This is somehow news to a lot of people?

“No Evidence That Chinese Playtime Mandates Reduced Heavy Gaming”: Zendle et al. (2023) Cannot Support Its Claims Due to a Flawed Design
Zendle et al. (2023) is a study of the impact of a Chinese policy restricting heavy videogame play among minors, finding that the policy had no effect. We show that, due to flaws in design, the study ...

This isn't subskeeting anybody in particular, but I'm getting really tired of the anti-AI propaganda that anything that actually works isn't really AI, it's "machine learning," when it's all the same research applied to different datasets, and people don't want to admit that the research has value.

Achilles in Vietnam was written in 1994. As one would expect, it postdates the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution by some margin. BUT! I agree that there is a whole canon of time-traveling literature that would have prevented the Vietnam War. At least one would hope.

The poem sets up this dilemma between κλέος and νόστος, with Achilles choosing νόστος until BOOM it's all μῆνις until the real νόστος which is Achilles' return to humanity when Priam visits him to request the body of Hector.

I think there's this idea of that there is a hierarchy of suffering, grievance, and trauma, as opposed to acts. Atrocity is atrocity in all contexts and no atrocity justifies another.

So my professional objection is that this gives Nidal an opportunity to call for violence. Which is a lot like a public execution in North Korea where the condemned started criticizing the state so the guards broke his teeth and then filled the condemned's mouth with rocks.

My personal viewpoint is that we are in an OpenAI / Oracle bubble. The question is how far out that contagion goes. OpenAI's financing has always been a nightmare.

I'm actually worried about hidden leverage on top of these debt outlays. All the agreements to build in the future also represent debts that are probably not being accounted for. The positive sign is in the graph - banks are charging to insure against an Oracle default, which is good.

The Al boom is becoming a debt boom and credit markets are getting nervous. Oracle's 5y CDS trades near a record 261bps, implying a 20.4% default probability. SpaceX: 16.5%. Even Nvidia:
>7%. Al-related borrowers have issued nearly $500bn of debt this year, Bloomberg reports. The question: how much future Al revenue is already being spent?

Oh, and the curse of dimensionality strikes with priors. Everything about that claim about Bayesian AgentsTM falls apart as the number of dimensions increase. Literally a guns and butter argument.

Or that human belief systems are mappable into a single distribution that would be something like a prior for bayesian statistics.

brasidas @brasidas.bsky.social · 10/10/2026
Also, I'm not going to do the math, but there are almost certainly posteriors which are almost everywhere the same which converge differently because Measure Theory is filled with things like that. How did you define your metric across the Hausdorff Space of posteriors you fucking weirdo?

One, they aren't Bayesian anythings - let alone agents. Bayesian statistics require observation. Two, if you believed such a thing as a Bayesian Agent existed, it absolutely could converge to different posterior distributions - particularly with different evidence which they don't have!
