I've had a lawn mower bot for kind of a while now, running on a schedule 3x weekly in the back yard. Don't think I'll ever get used to my yard just…looking trimmed, all the time (don't you dare look at the edges I KNOW I need to do that still)

ope
a mashup of the NYT Cooking Seis Leches recipe article and a reference to an old The Onion article “Fuck Everything, We’re Doing Five Blades”. The same seis leches cake is in this image, with the headline “Chingalo a todo, hacemos seis leches”

anecdotally, after many dogs in my life, the one that leaves barely any impact is our current one — a hound with fairly short, wiry hair. (I do NOT recommend anything with soft fluffy hair if this is your concern)

to be fair, sometimes D&Bs will let you put just a few tokens in and get a whole lot back, so it's really an apt study.

While I do agree that datetime and time zones can be quite challenging at times…promising to delivery my order 8 days before I ordered it seems a bit optimistic.
An order screen from the Chuys restaurant website, estimating that an order will be delivered from -11,525 to -11,510 minutes from when the order is placed.

my *favorite* Hutto Hippos fact (as a Greek major back in my uni days) is that our alternative programs school is RIver Horse Academy — the literal english translation of hippopotamus.

that city has NO BUSINESS having a 5-mile-long 45mph zone
screenshot of a wikipedia entry for Powell, TX

“Powell is a town in Navarro Country, Texas, United States. The population was 99 at the 2020 census.”

the population is highlighted in yellow and has multiple red arrows pointing at it

There’s a proposition in my city to allow a company to put up digital billboards and the “how they advertise vs what the vote is” is just…a wild schism.
A photograph of two mailed postcards encouraging a YES vote on Prop A, with claims that it will reduce crime and improve traffic safety in Round Rock, TX, but without every specifying what Prop A actually does. The literal text of Prop A, just allowing for digital signage and requiring it “prioritize public safety messaging”:

 PROPOSITION A
SHALL THE HOME RULE CHARTER OF THE
CITY OF ROUND ROCK, TEXAS, BE AMENDED
TO ADD SECTION 14.16 TO ARTICLE 14 TO
ALLOW UP TO TWELVE (12) PRIVATELY
 OWNED, OPERATED, AND FUNDED
 FREESTANDING OFF-PREMISE DOUBLE-
 FACED ELECTRONIC MESSAGE CENTERS
 LOCATED ON PRIVATE PROPERTY ADJACENT
TO INTERSTATE HIGHWAY 35 AND STATE
HIGHWAY 45 WITHIN THE CITY AND ITS
 EXTRATERRITORIAL JURISDICTION; REQUIRE
 PRIORITY PUBLIC SAFETY MESSAGING; AND
LIMIT REGULATION OF LOCATION, SIZE, AND
SPACING TO STANDARDS ADOPTED BY THE
 TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION?

On the one hand, I’m amused and ashamed that this argument worked on me. On the other…the site pushed me into buying them in the new year anyway? Time is fluid, I guess.

This has to be the absolute nerdiest @atp.fm t-shirt yet, and my friends that is REALLY saying something. Anyway, it’s perfect.

Flew my first solo XC today, plus had a nice stop for a plane-watching breakfast on one leg. Been building up to this day for a long while, and it did not disappoint!

If ever you’re passing through the area, the Llano airport is lovely. They have a free BBQ shuttle courtesy car you can check out to pop over to Cooper’s, and it’s well worth the experience!

In our seats and set up with theater-gimme accoutrements for the KPDH Sing-Along. (My kids are like a decade older than most in here, but the music is a universal jam!)

Oh, and yesterday we toured some cool spots at NASA. Got to see the mission control for ISS ops, the fully-restored room from the Apollo and STS missions, and walk through a full shuttle-without-shell in a building.

Swung by the Lonestar Aviation Museum with the kids today. Planes, as it turns out, are kinda awesome.

Felt just about close enough to reach out and touch the sky today.
Left seat cockpit view of a Cessna 172 with a manual gauge cluster. At roughly 4200 feet in altitude, the view out the dash is distant buildings and fields well below, with clouds just above the plane.

When this film was made, this was made to be a comforting coda at the end of a story about the dangers of someone too reactionary having the ability to fire nukes. In 2025…it reads a bit differently.

We started our Valentine’s Day off right, with the perfect love story. Huge kudos to @crobertcargill.bsky.social for making a beautiful genre fusion of a film that was well worth the wait.
Movie poster for the film “The Gorge”. Two observation towers sit on either side of a deep, fog-filled gorge as the sun ominously sets on the horizon. In the sky, Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy hover above larger than life, touching foreheads with eyes closed.

A view over a vehicle dashboard. In the foreground, a CarPlay map display showing jammed traffic taking 29 minutes to go 14 miles. In the background, a virtual sea of red taillights with bumper-to-bumper traffic ahead.
