This is the *kind* of research I think we need. It wasn't focused on "is teaching with GenAI better than X" but rather, "How do we teach with GenAI and what happens when we do so thoughtfully?" I would've designed the data analysis differently, but overall I appreciate the focus on process.

Educators frequently confuse assessment, feedback, & grading, applying teaching philosophies inconsistently. This paper reveals a need to clearly define and separate these concepts in biology and beyond. journals.asm.org/doi/10.1128/...
journals.asm.org
Assessment, feedback, and grading practices and philosophies of introductory biology instructors | Journal of Microbiology & Biology Education
Efforts to quantify the degree to which students have learned academic content are as old as the institution of higher education itself. In the early days of the college classroom, professors required students to commit whole texts to memory (usually ones the professors had written). Exams involved students reciting passages aloud verbatim, with the grade provided by the professor who single-handedly determined the accuracy of the performance (1). The power of the lecturer over the students almost defined that time period. The term “lecturer” shares the same epistemological root as the “lectern,” commonly used in churches (2). There was an almost perfect holiness associated with the lecturer being judge and jury, with grades based nearly solely on what counted as intelligence in their eyes.

Hilarious and deeply insightful writing by @brianphillips.lol.
Because the truth is, tech doesn't have an image problem. It doesn't have a message problem. It has an intention problem. What's wrong with the axe murderer who broke into my house is not that he hasn't successfully persuaded me to buy into his narrative. What's wrong is that he's trying to kill me with an axe. Similarly, when you launch a product that's designed to put millions of people out of work, block access to sources of verifiable truth, replace human creativity with slop, and lower the barriers to every sort of atrocity, the problem isn't that you haven't told the public a good story about those things. The problem is that you are trying to do them.
