This whole "I am from [a democratic state] and russia is not my enemy" flashmob. Folks, russia wants to destroy you no less than they want to destroy us. You were just lucky to be born and live further away from that rotten hole. By now, at least.

Shortly after the Ukraine war started, I got into a debate with a Western intellectual arguing how hard the 90s had been for Russians, so the war was understandable. To which I said: “You could say this about all of Eastern Europe and we don’t think it is ok if they try to annex their neighbours.”

I'm so incredibly tired. Attacks, victim-blaming, attacks, victim-blaming, on and on and on. I want to scream into people's faces that it is not our fault that Russia is killing us, and that we need help. I once naively thought that if social media had existed during World War II,

People in Oleshky have no food and are surviving on grass and weeds, a desperate measure that won't even be an option in the winter. Real pressure must be applied to Russia to allow people to evacuate!

This some advanced tankie "thought". Russia has a UNSC seat & world's largest amounts of land, gas, oil and NUKES. Russia also has no agency over our own actions and so cannot be held accountable and therefore must be excused and appeased.

Ukrainians in UK fear cut to funds for Homes for Ukraine hosts could make them homeless
Scheme set up after Russian invasion in 2022 paid £350 a month to people hosting Ukrainians but this will reduce to £100 next year Ukrainian refugees fear they could be left homeless after the government quietly axed 70% of funding for hosts of the Homes for Ukraine scheme, reducing monthly “thank you” payments to them from £350 to £100. The scheme was launched after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 and has provided support for 181,000 of the 234,000 Ukrainians who have since sought sanctuary in the UK. Just a reminder: the US wasn't there for us when Margaret Thatcher went to war over the Falklands. So the notion that Trump isn't going to be there for us if we had to do it again doesn't really add up to a row of beans. I'm more interested in whether he's going to be there for us if Putin attacks.

The West has failed to give Ukraine sufficient military, economic and political support, so, as was easily predictable, the war is rising in intensity and expanding in geography. If it is not to spread further, the West must do much more to help Ukraine defeat fascist Russia.
