First evidence of a Danish cohort of Roman troops appears in the barrow, we are still piecing together the evidence but this deadly object may have been used to stop barefoot attacks during the night #ucoveringromancarlisle

Hi guys, Ness Kingsley (my fellow writer at The Wanderer's Post) was able to meet you at the Derby Book Festival (you were a few stalls down from us). All the best.

Students are gonna hate school history exams covering this century: 1) A never-ending sequence of "era-defining" changes which will have to be memorised. 2) So much of our day sounds like it was written by a sit-com writer ...who was unbelievably high when they came up with this stuff!

If the rumours are true and the kids and social media consultation opens today, here are two things I think should be banned from social media: 1) AI bots 2) recommendations algorithms that optimise for time on site Firm regulation of both of these things is possible and auditable

Yup. ...also: 3) limit set on paid-for adverts a viewer is shown per hour. 4) new posts from accounts users have followed/subscribed to have to be pushed to the user over randos.

Storytelling has intrinsic value. Stories matter. They matter because they are fun, because they change us, & because storytelling is part of our humanity. Stories matter now more than ever. That's my view, anyway. What about you? www.monkeyandwhale.co.uk #fiction #fictionwriter #booksky

Breakfast in the treehouse! Artwork from my upcoming 7th Adventuremice book with @philipreeve.bsky.social & @dfbstoryhouse.bsky.social The original ink & watercolour paintings from the book will go on sale on the evening of launch day, UK 9pm, Thurs 9 Oct… If you're interested, mark your diary!

Painting of the Adventuremice - and a few other mystery characters - having a sunny breakfast along the branch of a tree. The book's title mentions the 'centre of the earth', so why is there sunlight, and a tree...?

...for the record, I weighed it myself. 1 piece of this paper is 8g. So 16 pieces of A4 paper would actually be 128g. So Google's AI got it completely wrong!

Am I being dumb, or is this not making any sense? Thanks, but no thanks, Google, I think I'll work this out for myself. I've mainly used DuckDuckGo recently, so it is interesting to see this. #AI #smallbusiness

Excellent points! It might partly explain why there has been such an uptick in mental health issues - we're struggling with life because we weren't meant to live at break-neck speed from behind a screen. Also, at what point does it just become cheaper to just speak to a person than use all this AI?

I wonder what's the current best alternative to Facebook? It does feel like a mass exodus will be on the cards soon, like Twitter last year, or MySpace back in the day. Just need a viable alternative🤔

Machine learning is only truly effective and efficient for a small number of tasks when done right. Large Language Models in particularly are only good for a small subset of Machine Learning tasks. None of these tasks are best done with a single monolithic "AI" machine.

Fun fact: if you're buying from a creator on etsy, you can reduce their etsy selling fees from 6.5% to 2.5% by ordering via 'shopname.etsy.com' instead of 'etsy.com/shopname' or searching from the main site. It costs you the same but the creator makes more
