In all seriousness, the trans question in the liberal imagination has not been "do trans people deserve rights?" but "does history ever happen to Americans?" For those who answer no, the bite-back is always "settle down, everything is fine!" Those who answer yes are sometimes even allies.

Couple times this week I've seen bitter stereotyping from trans women against either trans women who came out later in life, or conversely trans women who came out a long time ago and are now old. Couched in politics but mostly just bitter and mean. Don't do that. It sucks when anyone does that.

To be all social medicine about it, a diagnosis is less a statement of fact and more a cultural permission structure. When society benefits- when drugs exist that can bring someone back to participation, or when sanctions are eased so the diagnosed aren't removed from society, diagnoses go up.

Arguing with sports bans by talking about genital inspections is like arguing against the one-drop rule because it required Virginians to do genealogy. Trans kids get to do all the kid things- play sports, read books about people like them, ask teachers embarrassing questions, cry over friends etc

Mary Peltola being a jerk and using offensive language isn't great, but for me it doesn't preclude me ranking her in November. Advocating laws that would make it hard to live in the US as a trans person is a red line. She's said the ad doesn't reflect her beliefs but she keeps running it. 🤷
