ChatGPT is adding the signatures of real New Yorker cartoonists to its AI-generated images. So far, I've found the signatures of more than 15 contributors. "It’s slop, and unlike the other slop that I’ve encountered, this is slop that’s pretending to be me." www.niemanlab.org/2026/10/chat...
Left: A cartoon generated by ChatGPT and signed with Emily Flake’s signature that was posted to a Reddit forum in June. Right: A real Emily Flake cartoon published in The New Yorker on August 20, 2026 and licensed via The Cartoon Bank.

WELL NOW, would you look at that? A massive, 4-YEAR-LONG study of NEARLY 30 MILLION people in France found that individuals who received a COVID-19 mRNA vaccine had a 74% LOWER risk of death from severe COVID-19 compared to unvaccinated individuals and ZERO increased risk of all-cause mortality.

I tentatively agree, but am concerned that this could lead to difficulty finding people to do low level dungeons, as everyone would race to max level and then just start gearing with dungeons designed for ~level 50s

I get that we often think of survey data mainly as data and having more data at lower cost seems great, but at a very fundamental level we run surveys because we want to know what people think. If we don't care enough about people's views to ask actual people, why bother at all?

Oh they're real. I used to hang out in anti-antivax Facebook groups a decade ago, and yeah "urine therapy" was one of the weirder comorbid quackeries, along with bleach therapy and black salve (careful searching that one, the results are grotesque).

I hope you all had fun, learned something, maybe even grew a little bit as a person."

Not-so-Karate Kid
Alt: A kid in a gi (karate uniform) with a white belt swings a staff around pretend-fighting until he accidentally hits himself in the head, at which point he stops, holds the place where he hit himself, and makes a surprised and hurt face. This is relevant because OP described themself elsewhere as a "black belt in woke"

They're not the ones doing *real* AI safety. Their focus is entirely upon a future hypothetical superintelligence, not actual LLMs and their actual dangers

Don't forget that @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social wants to let the GOP get away with all of this. He said let's turn the page and get on with business. He's on the side of the Nazis if he thinks this kind of thing is acceptable in the United States of America. This can't be allowed to slide. It can't.

Four days ago, a scientist was surprised by the news that Anthropic discovered new virus genes for making DNA. He says he’s been studying them for years—and feeding his data to Anthropic’s AI as part of his own research. Coincidence? Here’s my story. nyti.ms/3VSWayc

This is barely subtext. The Kwisatz Haderach is the prophecied first male user of the previously exclusively feminine magic of the Bene Gesserit, unlocking/uniting the genetic memory of the male line with the normal BG genetic memory of their female lines.

like I suspect many of you on This Website, I think a core reason why I find Eliezer Yudkowsky and his rationalist and effective altruist satellites so intensely annoying is because I had a VERY similar “being a super weird, pretentious, hyper-literate kid” experience - I just, you know, grew up.

Hey, ProPublica reporter Jake Pearson here. I’m taking over the account to tell you about my new story. For months, I posed as a problem gambler on DraftKings to test the company's "responsible gaming" safeguards. Spoiler alert: They made me a VIP — and I lost $10K. Here's how it all went down. 🧵

We’re at the “shipping container courts” stage of ICE’s mass expansion of the enforcement system.
Each detention unit would sit on asphalt or concrete behind an office's existing security fence, with a counter for processing people and a separate holding area fitted with a toilet and sink for detainees according to the draft work statement.
The agency also wants a 300-square-foot unit for interviewing people in custody and a 60-square-foot "Virtual Immigration Court Unit" for hearings run by the Executive Office for Immigration Review, the Justice Department agency that operates the immigration courts.
Both must also be designed for their purpose before delivery.

And once the dust has settled on how many positions you can eliminate with AI, the next step will be a wave of machine translation-enabled outsourcing that will dwarf anything we've seen before.

I think this acts as a compounding force for why some Americans aren't happy with it. Being good at written communication used to be a valuable skill; now chatbots can turn anyone's writing Good Enough, especially if the higher-ups don't mind the obvious AI tells.

The problem is really in what they think they have to do about it. "The end is nigh and we have to stop it" isn't harmless, but it's better than the "and we have to help it along" types we've been getting for the past 30+ years.
