Yoga isn't about what bodies can look like in asana—or after years of practice. Yoga at its best is about how we can feel—deeply, profoundly, connected. bodymapsyoga.com

This country arose out of insatiable greed + body-based violence. Rape of the land, rape of the people. As a survivor & body-based healer for other survivors, I urge you to keep talking about it. Healing begins as flashes of insight, memory, possibility. And as words. Vibrations. Movements.

Feeling dissatisfied is not a personal failing. It's by design. Capitalism creates dissatisfaction so we will spend money, constantly seeking to end the feeling of dissatisfaction. Fascism leaves us feeling even more. Enraged. Fearful. Isolated. By design. Get wise to these ways. FEEL WHAT YOU FEEL.

The sound of everything—of the universe itself—is aum (sometimes seen as om in English translations). If you ever feel lost, you can forever find your way back by saying or humming this sound. Feel it vibrate through you, calming your nervous system and opening new channels of light and insight.

As your intuition strengthens, you will see everything as a metaphor/message. The body gets our attention with pain, illness & something not yet satisfied. Learn to interpret these signals instead of fighting or fleeing from them. The world is the same way. Ask, what is this suffering showing us?

I keep thinking about how my 17-year old nephew recently landed his first girlfriend. This energy, this level of consent and creativity and celebration. The kids are alright. ❤️❤️
Black letter board with wooden border. In white letters: MAY I BE YOUR BOYFRIEND. This is sitting in the back seat of a SUV along with red roses, a new pocket knife, beaded bracelets made by my nephew, and a case of drinks.

Farewell to the great Wendell Berry. Remember — though you have done nothing shameful, they will want you to be ashamed.
DO NOT BE ASHAMED
You will be walking some night in the comfortable dark of your yard and suddenly a great light will shine round about you, and behind you will be a wall you never saw before.
It will be clear to you suddenly that you were about to escape, and that you are guilty: you misread the complex instructions, you are not a member, you lost your card or never had one. And you will know that they have been there all along, their eyes on your letters and books, their hands in your pockets, their ears wired to your bed.
Though you have done nothing shameful, they will want you to be ashamed.
They will want you to kneel and weep and say you should have been like them.
And once you say you are ashamed, reading the page they hold out to you, then such light as you have made in your history will leave you.
They will no longer need to pursue you.
You will pursue them, begging forgiveness, and they will not forgive you.
There is no power against them.
It is only candor that is aloof from them, only an inward clarity, unashamed, that they cannot reach. Be ready.
When their light has picked you out and their questions are asked, say to them:
"I am not ashamed." A sure horizon will come around you. The heron will rise in his evening flight from the hilltop.

The poems I don’t share are the ones that know my name. They don’t dress the wound in metaphor. They don’t make suffering beautiful enough for someone else to admire. #poem #poetry
The poems I don’t share
are the ones that know my name.

They don’t dress the wound
in metaphor.
They don’t make suffering
beautiful enough
for someone else to admire.

They say things
I am not brave enough
to say aloud.

So I leave them
in the dark
unpolished,
unposted,
writhing quietly
between the tabs.

Some poems are meant
to be read.

Some are only meant
to survive
being written.

Each day we are inundated with examples of evil, sordid bullshit. It is sensory assault. On top of all the regular assault. Sometimes it feels hard to breathe. But I keep looking for—and creating—opposites in every way that I can. I keep creating love. I hope you do too. 💜

We can ask the body how it feels. And we can teach it how we want it to feel. It is all a conversation, not of words, but of the very things that make up words. The very things that make up everything. Vibrations. Inner knowing. Ask and answer. Keep going.

The language of the universe is symbols, patterns, interruptions, repetitions. If you aren’t yet sensing what the universe is saying, start by slowing things. You move it all with your breath. Let go of holding, having, and performing. Inhale. See. Exhale. Hear. Keep going. Ask. Answer. Seek. Know.

#Poetry #BlueskyPoetry #JapanesePoetry #Ryokan You do not need many things by Ryokan (translated Nobuyuki Yuasa)
My house is buried in the deepest recess of the forest
Every year, ivy vines grow longer than the year before.
Undisturbed by the affairs of the world I live at ease,
Woodmen’s singing rarely reaching me through the trees.
While the sun stays in the sky, I mend my torn clothes
And facing the moon, I read holy texts aloud to myself.
Let me drop a word of advice for believers of my faith.
To enjoy life’s immensity, you do not need many things.

Today marks 250 years since a small group of newspaper editors, farmers, and soldiers signed a document declaring our nation's independence — a truth that feels self-evident now but was revolutionary then.
What a privilege us Americans have, to live in a nation that every one of its inhabitants can shape. What an honor us New Yorkers have, to look out over our city's waters from the shores where so many Americans bravely entered their country for the first time.
Today and all days, let us remember that patriotism is not pretending our nation is without flaws. Patriotism is every act of righteous dissent — because loving our country means fighting for the best version of it.
Happy Fourth of July, New York City.

Being grounded is important for a variety of reasons, but one of my favorite is that when you are fully here, present, not-needing and not-anticipating, everything comes to you. Everything arrives because you are still, and your signal is unwavering.

Write down your origin story. Somewhere. Anywhere. Just make a record of the thing(s) that made you who you are. Even if it’s painful. Even if no one will ever read it. But most especially if someone one day will. It matters.

if you ever feel #writer'sblock, or just stuck about what to say or how to start, take a breath. know that all you're doing is moving things. words. perhaps people as well. but start simply, slowly--moving words, letters, shapes. focus on the moves, not where they will take you. #writingtip

Make moves. Stir up what’s stagnant. Clear a space. Stretch your body. Move items off your calendar—the ones you really don’t want to do. Put things on your calendar—the ones you know you’re here to do. Move those from possibility to plan. And each day move toward them. In this, you make worlds.

Photo by Alex Shuper. A narrow wooden bridge stretches into dense fog, its railings fading as if swallowed by mist. The landscape around is soft and muted, with hints of wild grass at the edges. The scene feels hushed and infinite, a quiet path dissolving into the unknown.

to open channels of intuition, begin by knowing nothing. and by “NOing nothing.” see without eyes, feel without physical touch, dream without tether to this place, this time. and in this, come alive. if you can’t find it, notice: are you holding back? are you holding breath? inhale. doors open.

"Tell me what it's like to live without curiosity, without awe." Letter to the Person who Carved His Initials into the Oldest Living Longleaf Pine in North America by Matthew Olzmann via @mayacpopa.bsky.social
Tell me what it's like to live without
curiosity, without awe. To Sail
on clear water, rolling your eyes
at the kelp reefs swaying
beneath you, ignoring the flicker
of mermaid scales in the mist,
looking at the world and feeling
only boredom. To stand
on the precipice of some wild valley,
the eagles circling, a herd of caribou
booming below, and to yawn
with indifference. To discover
something primordial and holy.
To have the smell of the earth
welcome you to everywhere.
To take it all in and then,
to reach for your knife.

A meditation + art practice: Ask “how do I feel?” Write/draw that. Ask “how do I WANT to feel?” Write/draw that. Notice: do I want to feel the opposite of how I feel, or do I want something else—something more nuanced or new? Find that. Whatever you want to feel, breathe into it. And it will be.

Spring is a season of growth + prosperity. To grow, first ground. This can be hard if you don’t like the place you’re in, physically or metaphorically. But grounding is imperative to growing. And we can do it wherever we are! Ground to the elements—all that is within + around you.
