The character performance between Diana and Hugh is a refreshingly uplifting take on parenthood, albeit a little one-note in both roles feeling a little too self-actualized and challenge free. Especially considering the lack of any compelling presence in other characters or the setting.

Someone said the magic words 'like Outer Wilds' so finally trying the Echo Weaver demo and yeah it's great, some incredibly clever ideas and slick platforming. There's some neat risk-reward built into the time based runs too, like spending time to heal yourself.

Finished Silver Pines. This game has everything. Demons. Rockstars. Detectives in trenchcoats. A crippling anxiety as the world ends around you. Sure, it takes a page from classic survival horror games you've played before but when its metroidvania design is this satisfying all is forgiven.

The structure isn't surprising considering the writer's legacy with visual novels but those tend to be several hour runs whereas the 10+ hour playthrough here before you start to unlock any context does stretch patience. I'd be interested to see silent hill double down on that more.

Finished Silent Hill F. An incredibly strong story and aesthetic that's dragged down by over-reliance on repetitive combat and keeping too many cards to it's chest. Having spoiled myself I'm torn on the multiple playthroughs to unlock and synthesize the various strands of theme and symbolism.

Might be best to push on TBH so you can get the point of understanding what's going on. The end is a pretty mind-numbing combat gauntlet though, I get the point of it but it's fairly one-note

Daniel Wynter @boardgamefeast.bsky.social · 11/10/2026
The first ending is incredibly upsetting and ambiguous but in ways I think are pretty consistent with the horror genre. I'm not particularly interested in how the subsequent playthroughs change the story but they do retroactively strengthen the meaning in the initial story.

Likewise, I didn't really have the patience (or friends) for the traditional Monster Hunter structure. Having a story framing and motivation would certainly help push me through it, but it's still a substantial commitment to learn it's systems.

Crimson Desert is a game built on the idea that it's better to give someone 10,000 Twinkies because oink oink fuck you piggie rather than sit down to make one single made-to-measure cake. It fundamentally thinks the player is a moron.

Here is another amazing example of the kinds of games to expect from ProtoCON. This is Cavern Shuffle by Gravy Boat Games. Cavern Shuffle is a single player, solitaire inspired, dungeon crawler card game. We recommend checking them, and their game, out! Go to gravyboatgames.com for more info!
Cavern Shuffle (Lair of the Lich)

Curios about what kind of games you'll see at ProtoCON?

Take a look at Cavern Shuffle by Gravy Boat Games.

other decor and art from the game Cavern Shuffle surrounds the text.Based on the classic Solitaire, Cavern Shuffle is a solo-player dungeon delver game.

where the player must level up their party in order to uncover the dark twists and turns of the dungeon.

More art from the game is includedThe setup is very similar to the Classic Solitaire with the seven piles in front of you forming the Dungeon.

However variations in gameplay differ depending on the edition of cavern shuffle you have.Play is centered around forming sequences with your four Adventurers and leveling them up into the Party piles at the top.

Leveling up your Adventurers will in turn help you complete different Encounters in the Dungeon until you are strong enough to beat the boss and win the game!

I've regularly referred to Instagram specifically as a game I refuse to play (meta's politics aside). It's partly the frustration of the ever-changing rules, but mostly the psychological hijacking of our values, warping our creations in chasing fulfillment from likes rather than the creation itself.

Just played the third scenario last night. Love it, but it does still feel a little susceptible to spending 5 minutes at the start trying to math out the optimal placements, it's hard to live in the moment when there are stickers on the line.

I know Morrowind isn't the answer to everything but I was just reminiscing on how hostile it is to the player (at least until you figure out how to exploit its systems 100 hours later). Outer Wilds also comes to mind, in exploring powerlessness both mechanically and thematically.

This afternoon in Marble Hill, a New Yorker was shot by an ICE agent in a residential neighborhood. Early reports indicate agents surrounded him and a 5-year-old child in his car before firing multiple rounds. We believe the child was physically unharmed.

This is an unconscionable and incredibly serious situation. I have called the President; when we speak I will demand that he ends all ICE enforcement actions in our city. I will not stand by while ICE agents terrorize our communities.

Our thoughts are with the injured New Yorker and his family tonight. We are praying for his recovery.

Get ICE out of our neighborhoods. Get ICE out of our hospitals. Get ICE off our streets. Get ICE away from our children.

Abolish ICE.
