One wild thing that not a lot of people are aware of, is that we don’t actually have to let these companies do any of this.

If you praise the Confederacy, everyone knows what you're doing. If you praise Rhodesia, though, you still get that little frisson of naughtiness, the little tingle of rebelliousness that can power you through the drudgery of your eight-hour shift at your dad's car dealership.

My heart is a salish apple I was so happy when someone in Creston started growing them. They are harvested late, and not ready yet; and they stop being amazing after about three months in storage. But so good. Slightly tart. Slightly sweet. Crunchy. Not huge. Great flavour! Oh my.

Our municipality puts out a survey each year to help them be cowards with regards to policy and spending. two years running, itsthe most leading, biased survey I have ever encountered Like "Do our cops do enough to combat the rising crime rate? 🔳Yes they are so brave 🔳No, they deserve more money"

The institutions are responsible for causing the environment where these assaults happen. Are they liable? That's complicated. But they built the enormous stainless steel tank where all this activity takes place. And so they should be more responsible in trying to prevent it.

bnprime.bsky.social @bnprime.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
Post secondary institutions kind of act like a Walmart type store who might say "whatever happens in our enormous parking lots is the business of people who park there." Dude your whole business model involves filling the lot with weirdo customers. So they are responsible for what happens out there.

Yeah. But also, like. We blame this phenomena on things like party culture, or alcohol use, or frat culture. Culture can amplify, sure, but the fundamental process of putting this many 18 year olds in a little mini city means parties are going to happen. Unattended drinks are going to happen.

bnprime.bsky.social @bnprime.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
I mean, we don't. If you get kicked out of one place for doing this, you can just wait 4 months and then move into a dorm at another institution and do it again. "But why would they?" I don't know why they are this way, but some people are and they suck, and our institutions cater to them

bnprime.bsky.social @bnprime.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
Based on experiences of people I know I think post secondary institutions are vulnerable to the type of person who preys on young people: drugging and then sexual assaulting them. I think we should keep a record, expel (and charge, if the police a shit), and bar enrolment to these predators

One of the most harrowing things about academia, when you're a grad student, is how vulnerable you are to how you're perceived by more senior researchers. Your career advancement depends on confidential letters of reference & private discussions amongst faculty. You have no information or control.

It's pretty common for people to dismiss parents who struggle helping their kids with common core math. But the problem is really a terminology thing. Your kid comes home with this worksheet and there's no explanation to the parent what "make a 10" means. And the kid can't remember!
Threads post from a person confused about her grandson's 2nd grade math homework.

The question says "Make a 10 to subtract. Write two subtraction equations to show how you can find 15 - 7"
