Like all great reporters, Doug was curious and wanted to connect with people. He wanted to learn what was happening, why it was happening, and to share that with people.

It’s what made him a great friend, too. Conversations with him were fantastic.

We're on our third watch. Honestly, the second time we put it on and just let it run. It's a great show to really watch, but also pretty flawless to have on. And I mean that as high praise.

Here's the thing: Hot Springs National Park has a long history with professional baseball. It was a spring training site for many clubs. If you want to do a national park game, that's where it should be, not some place with no tradition attached to it. www.washingtonpost.com/climate-envi...

Hey, ProPublica reporter Jake Pearson here. I’m taking over the account to tell you about my new story. For months, I posed as a problem gambler on DraftKings to test the company's "responsible gaming" safeguards. Spoiler alert: They made me a VIP — and I lost $10K. Here's how it all went down. 🧵

The dumb thing is - this originated with a recruiter for Fortune 500 making an advice video, and one piece was like "I wouldn't bring an iced coffee, it reads as casual." And for a Fortune 500 company, like, sure? But it morphed into like 11teen directions.

This news out of California is another troubling example of how the “rigged election” conspiracy theories have been mobilized into policy, including (illegal) ballots seizures. But it’s REALLY IMPORTANT to stress that the seized ballots are from a 2025 special election, not the current election.

I agree. But you know as well as I do - when you say “there must be some skills…” introducing that word shifts the conversation away from the statement the other person made. It lets them off the hook

I'm dealing with this both at the K-12 level (on my school board) and in my day job. All conversations around generative AI began around "students using it to cheat" without much thought on instructor/school use. We're catching up but it's a challenge.

This is a really interesting point, Nick. When we talk about the incentives here, I think it's important to say they are "perceived incentives" vs. actual incentives/needs. AKA, you feel like you need 10 pubs, but you really don't, but no one will say that.

Maybe? Here's what I'm thinking: The rocket fuel of the YouthSports Complex, the carrot that gets parents to become a part of it, is the college scholarship. (And being pro, but that is always a pipe dream). If those scholarships go away or are devalued, is there still a market for travel teams?
