re: winning people over on “the other side” by having discussions - as someone who spent most of her early transition in the public eye, that used to work a little (at extreme psychological cost), *but those days are over*. You cannot have a discussion that overpowers this right wing ecosystem.

I've been thinking about the price of diesel a lot. I don't drive a diesel, and been a good long time since I've seen a coal-rolling brodozer out there with a nice shiny bed that's never seen anything more than a Costco run. But people who need diesel to earn a living? 70% rise in fuel price is nuts

As all the mechanics in my life I know hit their thirties they have either figured out how to get their way to running a shop/management, or their bodies are breaking. To make a living with manual labor in this country is to destroy your body and receive a societal shrug when you’re disabled.

Generally, no. More often the sense is one of "Oh, now I understand why the character reacted that way," or something similar. It's like the understanding had been percolating in the back of my consciousness for a while - until it was ready.

Former commercial driver here. That "buttonhook" move you saw also isn't needed with large vehicles, with very very few exceptions. Your typical square turn will get most vehicles where they need to go without taking up another lane.
