Still working out some kinks but I thought I'd share for people in a similar situation. We have a mostly nonverbal autistic kid who can actually do sight-words OK. I realized I could make music videos with exactly his sight-word set and favorite topics using Claude (the model was sonnet 5.5).

"AI will change the world."
A screenshot via Reddit https://redd.it/1x4lmsu of someone searching Google "what is penis in braille" and receiving an AI overview: "The penis cannot read Braille because it lacks the necessary nerve receptors. Nerve Endings: Reading Braille requires Meissner's corpuscles, which are specialized nerve endings in the fingertips and other sensitive skin areas responsible for detecting light touch and fine textures."

A friend introduced me to a new ‘slow-cial media app’ called Roost, where you collect birds, and all the messages you send to people are delivered by those birds, at the actual speeds those birds would fly. This is the greatest thing ever.

Yeah, so, when I was about 3 or 4, it seemed like a great idea to watch the original Alien movie. Chest-burster and all. Spoiler: It was not a great idea

I keep having discussions with mathematicians, artists, etc., where they insist that we should make sure people are valued for being humans, not just their maximum economic contribution or whatever, and I keep wanting to shout... come visit any get-together of the special needs parent community.

I worry this sort of... generalized political and economic pessimism just makes everything feel pointless, but if you zoom out, things are getting better along almost every axis, and the biggest problems we face are all solvable.

Dolly Parton rose from poverty to stardom. She gave $500 to every student in her hometown who finished high school; she built hospitals & bald eagle preserves; her Imagination Library has gifted 300 million books to children. Roger Ebert met her and came away thinking she was a literal angel. RIP.
“In Dallas for the premier of '9 to 5', I had an uncanny experience, and on the plane home to Chicago I confessed it to Siskel: I had been granted a private half hour with Dolly Parton, and as we spoke I was filled with a strange ethereal grace. This was not spiritual, nor was it sexual. It was healing and comforting. Gene listened and said, "Roger, I felt the exact same thing during my interview with her." We looked at each other. What did this mean? Neither one of us ever felt that feeling again. From time to time we would refer to it in wonder.”

I've had to unfriend a few fans lately, all for the same reason. They made ridiculing, unkind, and in some cases outright cruel comments about pictures I posted of young women cosplaying Jessica.
More than a person, Jessica is a state of mind. To play Jessica, you need self -confidence, a sense of humor, and a Jessican -attitude-. There is no such thing as a Jessica cosplayer being too short, too flat chested, too heavy, too thin, too unattractive, too black, too Asian, or even too male!!! All Jessica, any Jessica, every Jessica is good Jessica.
I'm not giving any warnings or second chances. A single disparaging comment on a Jessica cosplayer, and I'm throwing you out of the rainbow colored Toontown Tent.

Social media has a problem: it relies utterly on authentic interaction between real people. Advertising online has a problem: It relies utterly on real people seeing it. For this and other reasons, the next big advance on the Internet will be a system to verify your realness. I guarantee it.

Really happy about this - Orban created the playbook Trump, Farage et al all tried to copy. And he had more to work with - a majority that allowed him to rewrite the constitution, years to rebuild the judiciary, *everything* And it wasn't enough. He lost. This is a seismic moment.

The real tragedy of April 1st isn't all the stupid "news" stories trying to be funny. It's that the other 364 days of the year, people assume they can trust whatever the media says.

I swear, it seems like 50% of raising a neurospicy child is "stick to the usual Good Parenting practices, only more so" and 50% "do not use usual Good Parenting practices, they're counterproductive" and 0% useful guidance on which situation calls for which approach.

See, shit like this is what's gonna erode Bezos' empire. Amazon will ship me the product *today* if I pay for it, or I can wait *two* days to have it with my (paid-for, let's not forget) Prime account. Not tomorrow, no - I pay extra or wait TWO days. This is just "pay us or suffer". Fuck that.

Why hasn't Disney used the Muppets to duplicate what Warner Bros. did with Lego movies? We could be 10 episodes deep into Muppet Star Wars, Muppet Marvel, Muppet Indiana Jones. Hell, Muppet Avatar would make more sense than the actual series.

A message of defiant hope in this difficult time: MAKE NO MORE CLOUDS. I HAVE DRAWN THE RAINBOW HERE.
A drawing in dynamic style of a defiant five-year-old girl with dark bobbed hair (seen as if looking up from ground level) shouting to her foe, pointing a finger with one hand while the other clenches behind her in a fist. On her head is a borrowed paper crown labeled "KING"; on her flowing nightshirt is a smiling cartoon narwhal. Behind her on both sides are clustered heaps of scared but eager kids.

The caption below the picture reads: "Make no more clouds. I have drawn the rainbow here."

Part of a page from Bea Wolf, Zach Weinersmith's retelling of Beowulf (illustrated by Boulet) as a story of kids defending their treehouse from the threat of growing up.
