Still working out some kinks but I thought I'd share for people in a similar situation. We have a mostly nonverbal autistic kid who can actually do sight-words OK. I realized I could make music videos with exactly his sight-word set and favorite topics using Claude (the model was sonnet 5.5).

I recently picked up Minecraft for the first time. I mostly did "just play it and work it out" but it's a big game and things like "dying every ten minutes unless I spend half my time hiding and waiting for daytime" really sapped the fun. Looking up "how to sleep" made the game better for me.

"AI will change the world."
A screenshot via Reddit https://redd.it/1x4lmsu of someone searching Google "what is penis in braille" and receiving an AI overview: "The penis cannot read Braille because it lacks the necessary nerve receptors. Nerve Endings: Reading Braille requires Meissner's corpuscles, which are specialized nerve endings in the fingertips and other sensitive skin areas responsible for detecting light touch and fine textures."

A friend introduced me to a new ‘slow-cial media app’ called Roost, where you collect birds, and all the messages you send to people are delivered by those birds, at the actual speeds those birds would fly. This is the greatest thing ever.

Far as I'm concerned, "finger foods" means things you eat without using cutlery

Yeah, so, when I was about 3 or 4, it seemed like a great idea to watch the original Alien movie. Chest-burster and all. Spoiler: It was not a great idea

Sure it could. Sk8er Boi is basically a modern retelling of Lady Chatterley's Lover 😁

Slightly less-facetiously: How long do you give it between the big movie studios going "hahaha we've fired all the artists, we love AI" and "people can make big-bucks-style movies that compete with us by using AI?!? BAN AI!!!"?

I keep having discussions with mathematicians, artists, etc., where they insist that we should make sure people are valued for being humans, not just their maximum economic contribution or whatever, and I keep wanting to shout... come visit any get-together of the special needs parent community.

As a Brit, not something I've ever had to consider - either works for me. Abbreviations don't have to keep original spelling intact - just look at the universally-accepted "will not" -> "won't"

I definitely find it's better to ask an AI "how do I do this task" than tell it "do this task for me" - the former means I learn, the latter makes me dumber

It's even worse to get distracted whilst attempting to eat it - your cutlery might fail to make contact with the meat altogether. You'll be accused of a "miss steak" mistake

Also, the pamphlet may be free. That doesn't make it okay for you to drop in once an hour every day and take *all* the pamphlets because you're burning them as free fuel to warm your house

Yeah, I assume that when playing an actual game, you'd think of it as "my deck" regardless of who owned it/what others you own at the time. After all, I think we can safely assume George owns more than one deck and AJ got a pretty clear view of him as a dragon :)

BlueMonkeySlippers @bluemonkeyslippers.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
I figure this is a "what the person believes" situation, so borrowing a deck wouldn't necessarily work: she'd know it wasn't really *her* deck, she was just holding somebody else's. The spell might flicker around alarmingly for someone who owns multiple decks!

My guess is the spell bases appearances on what an individual considers their deck, rather than on the physical deck itself. i.e. somebody sneaking a card into your deck without you knowing won't change your appearance. That does imply magic can mind-read, but I don't think that's news

I worry this sort of... generalized political and economic pessimism just makes everything feel pointless, but if you zoom out, things are getting better along almost every axis, and the biggest problems we face are all solvable.

We've already got IVF, cloning, rudimentary artificial wombs etc. A hundred years seems like it'd be vastly more than needed to solve the "no new people" problem. Release the gas! We can solve the side effects

Dolly Parton rose from poverty to stardom. She gave $500 to every student in her hometown who finished high school; she built hospitals & bald eagle preserves; her Imagination Library has gifted 300 million books to children. Roger Ebert met her and came away thinking she was a literal angel. RIP.
“In Dallas for the premier of '9 to 5', I had an uncanny experience, and on the plane home to Chicago I confessed it to Siskel: I had been granted a private half hour with Dolly Parton, and as we spoke I was filled with a strange ethereal grace. This was not spiritual, nor was it sexual. It was healing and comforting. Gene listened and said, "Roger, I felt the exact same thing during my interview with her." We looked at each other. What did this mean? Neither one of us ever felt that feeling again. From time to time we would refer to it in wonder.”

Just out of interest, will you ever be giving immortals an origin story? Where did they come from, do new ones still come along, etc?
