Just a friendly reminder that plague is prevalent, including in the western United States (see, prairie dogs), with multiple cases annually. It is also highly treatable and, yes, lab acquired infections (incl. fatal cases) have happened over the years, including e.g., UChicago.

Three-quarters of UK’s popular plug-in hybrid cars unable to use rapid chargers
Only 26% of PHEVs sold across top 20 models can use chargers with power of 50kW or more, analysis finds Three-quarters of the 20 top-selling plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) in the UK cannot use rapid chargers, research has found, amid concerns that many are essentially “petrol cars pulling round a heavy battery”. The cars, which can run on electric batteries as well as combustion engines, have been promoted by carmakers as a way to cover long distances in a single drive – unlike fully electric cars – while still reducing emissions. Keir Starmer's response to Nigel Farage at PMQs just now was probably the most powerful and eloquent I have seen him in the Commons. The full answer is worth reading.
“A grieving family have asked us not to respond in the way that the leader of Reform has responded. They've asked us not to. They have lost their son in the most appalling circumstance. They make a simple plea of us as human beings to please not exploit that. That is their plea to us.
“We all need to reflect on those words of Henry's father. My response, and the response of others to be fair, has been focused on the lessons to be learned so we can deliver justice. “His response has been to appeal for rage – rage. That's his response to a father who has lost his son and asked for that not to happen.
“Exploiting this tragedy to create grievance and division would be wrong in any circumstances, but to do it when the family are expressly saying please don't is unforgivable. It shows exactly who he is.”

Kenya’s high court has temporarily stopped US plans to establish an Ebola quarantine facility for Americans in Kenya. From challenging the bilateral global health MOU to this lawsuit, Kenya’s legal system is demonstrating what holding a government to account looks like.
The judge, Patricia Nyaundi, ruled that Kenya was not allowed to admit anyone exposed to or infected by Ebola under the proposed deal with the US until a challenge to the deal brought by the Kenyan rights group Katiba Institute was heard.

The group’s lawsuit said the plan “raises grave constitutional concerns regarding the rights to life, health, fair administrative action, public participation and parliamentary oversight”.

Health officials had said the proposal could place additional strain on Kenya’s already stretched healthcare system. The country’s main medical union threatened on Thursday to take strike action unless the terms of the agreement with the US were released within 48 hours.

US officials had said the 50-bed facility at an air force base would become operational on Friday. More than 30 staff from the US Public Health Service, a uniformed branch of the Department of Health and Human Services, left the US for Kenya on Wednesday after receiving three days’ training in Washington DC.
