Policy on health is clearly broken - politicized, out of touch, reactive and slow. My recent keynote at the Canadian Biosafety Symposium took a big-picture look at how and why that's happening, and how we can turn things around. Here's a general-audience version, recorded at the Deep River library.

Signaling to the government that we didn’t give a shit about our neighbors’ health long as Disneyland was open was maybe not the greatest move.

This is the logic we agreed to live by when we agreed to let ‘er rip on covid. If you get sick, if you die, that’s no one’s problem but yours. As I’ve said from the beginning, this is an anti-societal choice that isn’t containable. Disregard for health safety was never going to just stick to Covid.

“Nobody owes you anything” is a social philosophy, not an isolated incident. And if you live under it, sooner or later, you will suffer for it.

When they talk about the symptoms of a new sars2 strain in msm, they are describing the acute phase, on purpose. They are not describing the disease. Imagine they did the same for any strain of HIV.

Mainstream media needs to stop pointing out what "RFK Jr. gets right," because there are many, many trained public health officials who get the same things right without all the batshit crazy eugenics and woo.

If you lost money to the instability the oligarchs created in the markets over the last few days... ...that money didn't just coincidentally disappear at the same time billions magically appeared in the oligarchs' bank accounts. 👉That's your money.👈

Oil is bought/sold on commodities markets Most buyers do not buy oil & then take immediate delivery Instead they buy "futures" -- they commit to buying oil IN THE FUTURE at a given price The worldwide price of oil is a direct indication of global economic activity IOW this is bad for the future:

if it gets bad enough for futures, it might end up being good for the actual future. prices aren’t the only thing this metric measures

I missed this Nazi symbology in the DOGE logo: - has the Nazi golden gear component - has 8 stars + 8 stars (88 is code for heil Hitler) Musk used 14 flags reposting Trump saying anything is legal if in support of his country. 14 represents a white supremacist slogan substack.com/home/post/p-...

The golden one was given for high production at the factory
It's the Department of government efficiency logo. It has a dog with an American flag leaning on the letters doge. The name is above. It's the Nazi swastika with a gear around it. It's the flag of the Nazi union. It's the flag of the Nazi Union. It's a swastika in the center surrounded by a gear, but this time the gear is gold.

Even after being threatened by Trump and racially harassed by the MAGA movement, Mexico has sent humanitarian aid and firefighters who are risking their lives to save U.S. civilians and homes during the LA fires. "We are a country of generosity and solidarity," Mexico's President Claudia Sheinbaum.

Totally on-brand for public health to try & punt the responsibility to the individual (being fat, drinking) when the responsibility lies entirely with public health's failure to protect the public health h/t to Lauren McKenzie @themckenziest.gay who says "It's fucking Covid, you evil dipshits"
"The Mystery of What's Causing Young People's Cancer Leads to the Gut

Obesity and alcohol consumption are first priorities for cancer researchers". (Wall Street Journal)Chart showing steadily declining deaths from cancer among those aged 18-44 years old. Exception occurs starting in early 2020 when declines stopped and then started actually increasing

The effort & speed with which public health professionals are moving to brand cancer as a lifestyle (eating & drinking too much) disease is absolutely sickening Hey, Vivek Murthy, you know what's a much bigger driver of cancer than being fat? It's uncontrolled viral infection

The implications of this took me a while to understand But the gist is that neither insurance companies nor hospitals make more money if patients are happy Happy patients do nothing for a hospital or an insurers bottom line There is NO monetary advantage to having patient satisfaction

3. Hospitals do not see patients as their customers. The customers are the insurance companies. To the insurance companies the hospitals are the customers In no scenario are patients ever viewed by either hospitals or insurance companies as customers

A great sign that you have a decent and moral healthcare system.
Health insurers tend to have threat-assessment teams that size up risks against the company or specific executives, and determine the likelihood of an attack, said Eric Sean Clay, president of the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety, a trade group.
Many healthcare executives hadn’t considered it necessary to travel with security guards, Clay said. Yet since the attack on Thompson, Clay said companies across healthcare were scrutinizing their security procedures.

Because that would be an admission that air quality matters and covid is airborne, which so many people still don't understand. That lack of awareness is key to keeping people from protecting themselves and advocating for change.

COVID now sometimes enters you body “silently.” It evolved by flipping, making it invisible to the things in your body that kill it. So now it can remain in your body. And for some it begins causing problems 6 months or more down the road. This was due to human not caring if we caught it.

While continuing to normalize death & disability from COVID, I see that our late-stage capitalist dystopian society has also chosen to normalize in-flight emergencies rather than prevent them.
